Is that what you call future trauma planning ? On a more serious note, I'm not sure that lifestyle dictates who will get peircings and who will not, I think it's often a case of the decision to have piercings becoming part of the lifestyle rather than being dictated by it. I don't think lifestyle has much to do with making bad decisions either. I know plenty of people with fucked up lives and marriages, and not a piercing between them. In my experience people are capable of making mind-numbingly bad decisions regardless of where or how they have chosen (or are made) to live their lives. Interesting though. Or may be more inclined to create an unwanted pregnancy, leading to abortion. Also they may have experienced childhood trauma in a bohemian/alternative environment and then go on to be bohemian adults in the style they were raised. Oooohh, very thin ice in terms of political correctness so I can see why you edited. Seriously though, I think you're right. Why shouldn't we be able to draw certain conclusions about "bohemian culture". It's no stranger than stating the obvious fact that more heavy metal fans are into gothic visuals and stories about vampires and such than others even though such things aren't always directly linked to the music. You're not totally wrong at all. I can definitely see what you mean about how a carefree personality could lead to both spontaneity (the positive side) and not-so-well-thought-out behaviour. What people might complain about though, is that (arguably) most people don't get tattoos and piercings at a whim. They're usually decisions that have grown out of a long time of thinking. BTW I have 3 piercings in each ear, one in my belly button, and am thinking about getting the little flaps in front of my ear canals pierced.
Pictures please! Thanks for making me feel less silly/wrong. Maybe I should go have a talking-to with this Dr Roberti (I live in Sarasota) "My bounty is as boundless as the sea,
My love as deep; the more I give to thee, The more I have, for both are infinite." ~Juliet

The funny thing was that at the time I was commuting on train to San Francisco from San Jose. That's about 45 miles or so. Well being on a train and bouncing up and down all over the place made me an unhappy camper. It was painful just sitting there. THEN I found out that the piercings weren't long enough. They were digging into my skin. I had to have them replaced. The woman who did it said "This might hurt more than the initial piercing" GREAT!!!!! More pain. After all that it felt much better. M It's an odd sensation to be literally painfully aware of your nipples at all times. I'll never forget the first time I went out in really cold weather while my nips were still healing. In regards to the topic, I enjoy being pierced, and I haven't been through too much trauma, especially until fairly recently. Though, I did learn my ability to go to a place where I process pain as an intense experience rather than as a neccessarily BAD experience as a teenager dealing with emotional pain. I'm able to find beauty in that intensity. Which makes piercing good, as long as I can hang on to that headspace. I've also been pierced when I wasn't in that place, and then it totally sucks skanky ass.

spot on, retina! I have only had one piercing out of spontaneity but that's an anti-tragus (on the ear) and those aren't too dramatic. Estrelle said: BTW I have 3 piercings in each ear, one in my belly button, and am thinking about getting the little flaps in front of my ear canals pierced.
awesome! Those flaps are your traguses. check with your piercer before getting them done - some peoples' are too small so they can't physically get them pierced. but they look cool I mean, like, where is the sun?

Some people think its weird but I found it to be very uplifting - a real buzz. I don't know if it was all the endorphins or serotonin or what it was but it sure felt good. I didn't get that feeling so much with my piercing, probably because it was over in about two seconds. I'll leave graffiti where you've never been kissed

I've been thinking of peircing my lower lip. I don't know though. Do it. And if people start asking questions about why you got it just say "Because I wanted" Or the famous question "Did it hurt?" answer "Yes, it hurt like hell." M LOL, you may have just swayed me man.....however, i wonder if i can get one of those clear lucite things to keep in when at work during the healing process

I have just earrings and tongue stud. And I have definitely not had a traumatic life at all. Quite the contrary. I wanted a tattoo but decided on tongue percing out of respect for my parents who hate tattoos. They hate the tongue ring too but not as much, but if they see it when I talk or smile they still tell me to close my mouth...
I like the tongue stud very much, it hurt like heck for he first two days and I drank litres of water, couldn't eat solids for a week but after that, perfect healing. I like how it's hideable but quirky. The only things that are different are eating noodles (they twist around it somtimes), ice cream (funny streak when I lick) and lollypops (the feeling of scraping the stud agaist the candy grates my nerves). I have a neon pink UV light ball on the upside, it looks so nice in my opinion. I've never seen it "in action", but whenever we are in a club, my friends ask me to show it on the dancefloor.
