I once took a train all the way to New Orleans. (And yes, the train I was on from Chicago to New Orleans was THE train called "The City of New Orleans" that that one song was written about...) It was kinda neat. I was traveling alone and met a few interesting people, a girl from Louisiana who was telling us about all the farms and foliage we were passing and a 20-something couple from Australia who were traveling around the US by train. But goodness, does it take FOREVER! and I mean FOREVER! If you've got time to spare and wanna take a leisurely scenic route, it's not a bad idea, but if you don't, I'd tell you to fly. |

Yeah, see, it's 35 hours by train or 2.5 hours by plane. I'm thinking that about the first 16 hours on the train would be fun and the rest would suck, 'cause I couldn't afford a sleeper room thingie. But saving $100 would be good.
