Ain't nothing like an old school dance recital

Got to go out of the house today, a rare feat for the father of an infant child. The wife and said infant stayed home while me and the three year old went to my niece's dance recital. Needless to say, Star Wars III it wasn't.

But it's all good. Actually, it featured two of my nieces and the 2 hours and 45 minutes flew by. My two nieces were great but the other dance sketches, 30 or so, well they varied in quality. Of course, everybody loves when the two year olds come out and walk in a circle for two minutes to some Disney-fied hip-hop song. And this particular recital featured several shall we say rather large young dancers. But I ain't making fun of them. Since I was a "husky" adolescent myself, I know the hell that people bring to your life when you're overweight. If dancing gives them confidence in themselves, that's a great thing. Some of them just didn't look comfortable in the spandex they were forced to wear, though.

Two Prince songs found there way into the recital, Batdance (with several high school girls in Catgirl outfits) and Baby I'm a Star. Batdance was a trip because I hadn't really heard it in a while and I was getting really nervous because they were letting the song play too long and they just barely shut it off before Prince goes insane at the end of the song. Hearing "you son of a bitch" accompanied by machine gun fire in a big room with hundreds of 8-10 year olds would have been surreal to say the least. Hey, music guy, you almost lost your job there buddy.

Anyway, it was nice being with my family and my wife got a couple of hours of sleep with us out of the house so it was all good.

Still would have rather been at Episode III, watching Anakin descend into the murkiness of evil...
All good things they say never last...
