It's a big song contest between European countries. It's a bit hard to describe...but it's a cross between American Idol and a really bad kids concert.

It's a comp to see who's country wins and holds it next year. All the countries have a vote, but they can't vote for their own song. Actually.....there's no real pint to this competition othere than laughing at the acts. lol

Yeah, in england it is a laughing stock. It is interesting that u aussies get it too. I had no idea it was on today (today being 3am uk time). Our hosts just have fun and take the piss out of the entries, in a lighthearted, tongue in cheek way. Those presenters on the show itself are always funny. They are so crap!

The interesting thing is that this contest used to be quite well tuned-in with contemporary music back in the eighties (at least more so than today), but then music outside the contest changed and the contest remained like a time-capsule from the days of perky, catchy, silly tunes. I'm not sure if it'll ever catch up again.

In any case, it's all good fun. Those that enjoy it most likely enjoy it for the European party that it is. It's very rare that Europe comes together like this in other contexts.
