It would help, of course, if I knew something about your son's interests. Not all sixteen year old boys like the same thing, I'm sure.

he enjoys music of all sorts
did i mention that soccer is his life ?
he is a spiritual young man and loves god and his country and his family

I just love to give and receive books.

Good ones are timeless, valuable and original.

They show you ways of life you never thought of. They open doors you wouldn't be able to open otherwise.

They make you wiser; make your mind more flexible and give you energy.

16 year is a good age as well to start with some masterpieces. At that age you are already able to integrate different ideas and make them your own.

But maybe you think books are boring as a gift. I don't.

A surprise-party is a good extra, but make sure you invite the right friends. My mother always invited people that she thought were my friends, but in fact weren't. She once invited the much older boy (I was 14 and he was 19) I was secretly in love with. That was just horrible.

This might seem stupid...but get him some crazy insane amount of lego's...if he likes to build stuff. I regret the day I gave all my lego's away.

just a suggestion.

girls are so much easier for these milestone birthdays sigh

im guessing a car is a bit more than you wanted to hear... how about coupons for nights to use the family car hmmm

the book idea sounds nice nod

or, how about a night at a nice hotel with his friends shrug you know, swimming, pizza, movies, that type thing ??? of course you will be in the next room lol but hey, they're "kinda" on their own for the night wink

to me, the 16th birthday is a chance to show you really enjoy the person they're growing into and that you trust their judgement. so, anything that shows hes movin up in your eyes and in the world would make an impact i think.

im sure whatever you do, it will be lovely hug
