I am going to an orientation today for people who are considering donating an organ. My aunt is 27-years old, and she only has one functioning kidney...and now that one is giving her problems. She has diabetes and waiting on the donors list could kill her sad I'm the only person in the family who is a match eek However, this is a very scary thing and I'm not so sure I want to go through with it.

What would you guys do? I would feel bad if I decided that I didn't feel confortable with the surgery and then she dies.

Very difficult decision neutral

HUGE decision you're making and I wouldn't want to be in your shoes. You need to find out all the pro's and con's and talk with your Aunt. Life with one kidney can cause all kinds of problems for you, too. Just remember it won't be selfish if you decide not to do it...

That's exactly what I keep telling myself. Plus, I keep thinking "what if something happens to me?" I have a 2 year old son. But then I think of my aunt and she has a 3 year daughter..... sad

Heavenly

This is huge decision. I'd be scared to be in your position.
But I have already been in life threatening situations to help my family and I would do it again.
Actually, I'd do it for some of my friends too. tere are one or two people here that I'd do that for.
But again, living your life with one kidney is a major decision, and before doing anything, you should take all the risks and problems under consideration too.

I'm sorry. I really can't help you with this decision. You need to really research this and see if it's a wise decision for you. It could mean you will have to be on diaolasis (sp.?) later on in life...for the rest of your life. The decision you go with will be the best one though, I'm sure. Good luck to you and your aunt.

I don't know if you are religious or spritual or what but if I were in your shoes I would sure pray about it and then listen to the quiet voice of my heart. It is truly your decision. At 27 I too was a young mother and I really wasn't equipped to make a decision such as this.

do what you feel is right

I'll keep you in my prayers.
