*NEWB QUESTION-BEWARE*

*Before any of you get upset and start talking about direction the world is going when someone isn't up on ancient technology, let me just say I don't want to hear it. If any of this is confusing to you, refer to my sig.*

What's the difference between an LP and an EP? Why were 45's called 45's? Why do Prince fans cling to their phonographs as they do?

LP is the British form of EP. It's a metric thing. And 45's are called 45's because in the year 45 Caesar DickClarkicus was born and vinyl was invented.

It's an honorarium.

P.S. None of the above is remotely true. sad

LP = Long Play
EP = Extended Play
45s = 45 RPMs

Last question: shrug

The difference between LP and EP is one is longer.

45s are so named cause they are played on a record player at 45 rpm's (rotations per mintue I think?) versus the 33 and a third LPs are played at or the really old records were played at 77.

Vinyl is old school and funky and not as common. It's like people who are into antiques. It's just something fun and rare to collect these days. There are those folks who will tell you its about the sound quality (and there is a difference) but it's mainly cause of the cool factor.

Alright, thankx all. Been wondering about this stuff.

So is the sound quality better or something or does the scratchy sound add to the old feel?
