Race is a madeup concept, we're all mixed. P.S if your light skin and look like halle berry please orgnoteme I think for some people it's their "thing", like any kind of racial pride really but they feel the need to/want to explain it for a variety of reasons. But I think some biracial folks are SO into it b/c they have that extra layer of "I'm both! It's confusing! Where do I belong??!!! OH MY GOD!!!!!" shit going on... makes me tired But you'd be amazed how big of a deal other people make it out to be. I mean, I don't think I'd have half as many issues that I do if people just didn't talk to me about it at ALL. I mean, like, where is the sun?

I usually don't comment on subject like this cause everyone is going to think what they want so for me debating is pointless....But I for a change would like to make a comment or 2...
First...Whenever race is brought up here or in certain other circles someone will usually say "It's about the person not the skin color" Or something to that extent...I don't know about the UK, China or any other part of the world...I will tell you this...In the US race is ALWAYS a factor regardless of what race we are talking about... As long as human beings exist they will always try to seperate themselves from each other...Either by income, social status, race, relligion, pollitics the list is endless...It is human nature to do this...is it right? Of course not but why do some seem to want to bury their head in the sand about it all existing? Some would argue that if you don't talk or think or worry about it, it will go away and you will break the cycle...Im afraid it won't break any cycles... As long as humanity exists there will be seperation and segregation of some kind or another. And though YOU may not believe in it or want to acknowlege it does not mean it's not happening and affecting someone else. We all speak on topics like this and come from different backrounds and experiences. So we are going to see things differently cause you may have experienced something others have not. I understand what Flesh was and is trying to say...Again in mine and her backround BI- Racial issues and debates are there...where perhaps for others it is not...I just wish when it comes to topics like this people would place themselves in the other persons shoes before making snap judgement (not that anyone here did that) or jumping on them (not that anyone did that either.) My 2 cents....well more like 3 cents...Im done... clever clever quotation - attention getting quote - sad yet witty remark - look at me! Im deep quote- song lyric about my ex cause that bitch stole my mp3 player! - line from movie I liked - Prince lyric - not very clever sig mocking other sigs

Sinister, surprise surprise, I agree with you on your points... maybe it's because I am a biracial baby myself... or maybe it's because I'm completely drunk.
What I found particularly interesting when I lived in London was that my race did not mean a damn thing. Here, in the US - in California, no less - it has always been a huge huge factor of my identity. I cannot go one day without being reminded of it by someone. But in the UK - poof, it disappeared. All of a sudden it was about me being American, not being biracial. Case in point - my boyfriend is half Welsh, half Filipino, and he has never had to deal with the shit I've had to deal with. He thought I was totally cuckoo for even having these issues because he had never experienced them living in London/Wales. Funny how there's that separation. anyhow, carry on... I mean, like, where is the sun?

I think physically bi-racial children (particularly half black and half white) are the most beautiful racial combination. People who don't want races to mix are just racist plain and simple-I am surprised with how many people I have been running into latley who think this way. It makes my stomache turn!

However, of course there is racism here too, but with regard to the biracial issue only, I've got and have biracial friends and they are not reminded of it every day as Pam pointed out. That just seems SO excessive. Maybe in other parts of the country they are sadly... I've been asked if I am biracial myself, lots of times, but the topic has never become a huge debate and dropped almost immediately. as for racism as a whole, yes it certainly is an issue in this country. ... [Edited 5/20/05 4:01am] I live in the West Midlands (UK) which is known for having a large and diverse ethnic mix. However, the small town I live in is still living in the Dark Ages as far as racism is concerned - a black or Asian person walking into a pub will still turn a few heads and cause whispering, and if a black/ Asian family moves onto an estate, my God the older generations can hardly contain their panic. I am happy that, even in my lifetime, I have seen racism become less and less socially acceptable in this country, so hopefully these dumb attitudes are gonna die off with the people that still hold them.
