New baby and the schedule is killing me My new baby Zoey is 9 days old. On average over the last week I have gotten 3-4 hours of sleep a night, most closer to 3. The baby's schedule is killing me. Zoey has a voracious appetite and has nighttime feedings at 11:00PM, 2:00AM, and 5:00 AM. Possessing useless nipples, I have nothing to offer the baby but I usually stay up in solidarity with my wife and bottle feed towards the end of the sessions. I am a night owl and like to do things like visit Prince.org or check on my useless stocks. So I get to bed, wake up in two hours, help feed for an hour sleep for an hour or two and feed again. I'm damn tired. My wife is being run ragged and the feeding has left her very sore. Our schedule is shot and unless I can find a way to get myself to go to bed earlier, I am going to be a wreck for some time to come.
That being said, Zoey is the most awesome baby on earth and one smile from her makes me feel like the world's most selfish bastard for worrying about a petty thing like sleep. Just thought I'd share... All good things they say never last...

Moderator | welcome to parenthood, life as you know it will never be the same. You have to go with the babys schedule. And sleep when the baby sleeps. Enjoy the new baby, they grow fast.

This is our second and our first was so different because she would eat, be done in 10 minutes and go back to sleep. The new one is a slow eater who seems to linger over everey last drop of milk. My family, whom I love, are fairly useless and don't really picth in too much. It's all good. Wouldn't trade it for the world. All good things they say never last...

trust me, these days will be gone before you know it... remember the first and how fast it ends ? i know while i was doing it the first time around i was thinking to myself what the hell have i got myself into (i left my son's father during pregnancy) and how the hell am i gonna make it but, looking back... those nighttime feedings - how about you look at them as 'visits' from the lil one that misses you and, ya know, since shes hanging out with ya.... sure, cook me up something yeah, i know, stupid... but the truth is, these days fly by... soon your lil one will be going to the kitchen when they want food, and not to terribly long after that they will be making it all on their own its rough no doubt about that, and i feel for ya but at the same time i do miss my lil babies that used to wake me up like that One of the best days of my life... http://prince.org/msg/100/291111

That being said, Zoey is the most awesome baby on earth and one smile from her makes me feel like the world's most selfish bastard for worrying about a petty thing like sleep. Just thought I'd share... [b] I had twins and breast fed them both till they were a year old. I was a walking milk producing ZOMBIE. I didn't get a full night sleep on a consistant basis until they were 6. Then I decided to have another baby...silly me!! You can do this! It gets better every 3 months, all I can suggest is sleep when the baby sleeps. try and take some time to sleep for yourself so that sometimes you can do a night shift all on your own and mommy can sleep that night. I know its hard especially if you have to work, but all I can say is it gets better with time and soon you will be longing for these days again. And make sure you take TONS and TONS of pictures!! This a most special time! Congrats on your new bundle of love and joy!!! Nammie
