You do realize there are more non-white people with natural straight hair than whites, right? What's the reason I dislike short hair on women, or red hair, or pony's or braided hair? Is that the white man's propaganda too? lol

Um...sorry joey, but that is the most ignorant statement I have ever heard you spit! Do you know the more "non-white" you are means you are more apt to have melanin and closer to your African descent than "whites" are? Which in turn means your hair is "not" naturally straight. If you notice anyone that is black or of any shade that is not white, their hair is more apt to be curly or nappy which is a direct product of genes and heritage.

I think face shape, and own personal style plays a significant role in picking the right 'do IMO. My cousin has locks down to the middle of her back, and she takes really good care of her hair, it's like no big deal to her after years and years of growing it. Personally I can't see myself with them. Maybe I'll sport a 'fro in the next decade of life, like my mom, but not bleached blonde like hers. She prefers it bleached so she don't have to fight with the pick so much.

I think what most people see as ugly are the "Dread"Locks which have no manicured look, but have the simple unkept look. Dreadlocks are of rastafarian culture and are not manicured or cared for in the more recognized forms we are seeing more and more of today. Those locks are allowed to do whatever it is they do in forming the matted look that true Rastas wear. My locks, I twist ever few months or so and keep them separated in the interim so they don't grow into each other and get that wild matted look, and to each their own in that regard.

I still wouldn't do nothing with him though. A cop worker of mines had some ugly dreadsand since he took them out and has a fade now he has been dating more from what he told me.

Maybe the dreds just didn't look right on him through your eyes.

If u jamaican and stuff i can understand thats your culture and stuff, and maybe thats why i wouldn't ever touch one except the women, men never, but that just doesnt look good at all.

And that's your opinion.

Dreds are just another hair style. Seriously. Don't know how they morphed into some "eww" factor for some folks. You don't have be Jamaican to illegitmately do it. My brother has dreds and he is in a long term relationship. It didn't hinder him from getting a mate — what kind of bools**t is that?

Sista...."I AM A TEACHER" AND THERE ARE PLENTY OF TEACHERS ALL OVER THAT HAVE LOCS. Locks are no longer deemed as a social stance they once were, they have now come to be more readily accepted by the "powers that be" more than ever, plus they recognize strength in your and show that you are truly in tuned with who you are by nature. Get them locks sista and where them proudly!!

Well two of my female friends are professional journalists in New York and they have locks (plus a guy who works on my floor has locks)... many people do. It shouldn't stop you.

Anyone who's still stuck on locks being "unprofessional" probably adheres to the "brown paper bag" theory.

Sammi, it probably depends on what region you live in. I live in the San Francisco bay area and they are getting more and more common. Both my husband and my mom have locks and they have very good jobs. I don't think that it's a big deal out here anymore.
