Star Wars III Marketing

I'm sure you've noticed just about everywhere you go lately, you've seen some heavy promotion for the latest Star Wars installment.

From chips to soda to dinner wear and underwear, you name it. (I just picked up a set for my son)

Being in Marketing myself, I couldn't help but think ...

Is Lucus paying for the promotion?

I think not! Everything with one of his characters labled on it is a sure seller. The Star Wars saga automatically makes those items "collector items" to many as well as just the novelty of it all.

I can't help but think: WHAT AN AMAZING POSITION Lucus is in to get paid to promote his own product!

Thoughts?

Licensing contracts for Star Wars rights have been VERY lucrative for Mr. Lucas since the beginning. nod

all i know is that i'm sick of every other commercial, from M&M's to Burger King, having something Star Wars in it. I mean, people are gonna flock to see the movie anyway, so why do they have to throw it at us constantly?

My kid is not yet 5, he is obsessed with Darth Vader. He is not allowed to see the movies, yet he knows all about "The bad Dark Man" from supermarket junk mail, TV ads, Target in-store displays etc. He has made himself a light-saber from a paper-towel roll confused Madness!

It is overdoing it, but I'm sure it's because they want to take advantage of Lucas' most valuable commodity in order to get more sales themselves. Blame it on the greedy corporate executives. razz

That'd be about the right size for the handle. What did he use for the blade?

I work for marketing people, but I create the graphics, video, etc... for them to sell their stuff.

I think it's a cool position to be in that your "idea" is such a hot item that everyone scrambles to get a piece of the pie. Star Wars aside.

I wonder if they sell these here? My son would love it. He just drew a picture of Darth Vader - complete with that triagle grill bit on the front of the helmet eek He was drawing it from memory too.

whats soo amazing is that lucas got those rights on a fluke.....he was negotiating his star wars contract prior to American Grafitti coming out..when that was a hit Fox offered a payraise...Instead he asked for rights to the film, sequals and merchandise...at the time those things meant nothing so fox agreed....

even more fascinating is that this puppy is an indie film. lucas paid for it all with his own cash....

i wish i were a lucas kid.... sad

Okay, I have sat through the hype and the product placement and I'm good with all of it. But a minute ago, they showed a preview where they were showing all these great dramatic scenes from the movie and then the text came on the screen.

In Two Days...Sith Happens!

Sith Happens!!! Who the @$^# came up with that? Desecrating the finale to the classic series by using a juvenile play on words. How did that one get through?

I saw that on FOX tonite. I was hoping it was a commercial specifically for FOX cos it seemed so appropriate on that network.
