I don't feel the need to "contribute" to anyone's life. I'm not bothering anyone which is something I wish a lot more people would do.

Well, if I drop the ball software updates may not get done.
If they don't get done, checks may not be printed on time at the New York stock exchange. If they don't get printed on time, the stock exchange has to extend it's hours. This sends the market into a temporary bit of turmoil, and executatives start looking for heads to roll across the world. I wish this was a joke too.

When is the last time you felt good about "how" you exist on a day to day level?
actually tonight because I had an absolutely fantastic night with two very special people...I realise that's probably not what you meant Dex but that's the best I can answer at this time of the morning lol Are you truly happy with you contribution to those around you? no...but if I was I'd be pretty full of myself. Life is about striving, learning, giving and loving so if I was 100% happy with the contribution to those around me I'd have nothing left to give (hope that made sense lol) What is your impact on the world? I'd like to think I can make people smile and happy and realise they're loved

You can make an impact on someone's life just by saying "Hello." It doesn't have to be deep. **************************************************

I often think about this, a legacy of some sort. I believe that when I am dead, I am dead and unless I leave something significant behind what was the point of my life.
So when I started my career it was to make a significant contribution to science, to publish as much as I can. Now I have published a 20 or so scientific papers and a couple of book chapters and this is no longer enough. I know that I still wouldn’t be happy if I were to die tomorrow. These days it’s a little less of publish or perish, the people I interact with the students I teach hold a lot more significance. I had a 150 first year (freshman) students take their end of year exam on Monday. An exam I set, for a 12 week module I designed and taught. As I walked round the exam hall, wandering up and down the rows, watching them scribble away I felt an enormous sense of pride. I taught them that, that was my impact on the world on Monday. Yesterday it was an e-mail. Today a few thoughts, an experiment or two in the lab that might yield something and a bit of time on the org. I don’t yet believe I have made my impact on the world yet, but each day I do a bit more, and some days I get a bit closer. Happy is he who finds out the causes for things.Virgil (70-19 BC). Virgil was such a lying bastard!

i dunno. every now and then i give my lunch away to someone who is hungry i hate to see people hungry, i hope for at least that time their stomach was at peace. and i hope the things that i teach my boys will make an impact, like education and especially loving themselves 'cause i know the world can be rough when it comes to black men. i want them to know that they are worthy of happiness and that life is what you make of it and to never ever sell themselves short.
