should i shave my corgi's ???

some people say that 'double coated' dogs arent supposed to be shaved... does anyone here know ?

they dont live outside, they are in either heat or air conditioning all year round, and they spend very little time outside on their own. but, on this site, i found a picture of what it looks like when i brush my babies bawl

http://www.terenelf.com/S...dding.html

disbelief

its something about the under coat growing faster than the outer coat, so, you end up with a 'fuzzy' dog instead of protective outer coat shrug

but seriously, i have bathed and brushed these dogs for 4 days in a row, and the hair is not getting any less sad

Yeah, I thought about suggesting calling a groomer, but you never know which is just wanting the business. Plus, your dogs are inside, where having the fur in the a/c is good.

think of what the poor dog's hairy head would look like, all thick
with a furr coating, stuck onto his shaved, naked body.

the poor thing would look disastrous. don't shave them. just brush
them every other day for a while and then the shedding won't be as
bad as in that first pic.

when I saw that pic I was falloff because if I never brushed my
dog I'm sure that's what it would look like if I finally took a
brush to his coat lol.

You should consider what kind of dog you're getting before you get it, that way you wouldn't wind up with this problem. All dogs except a few select breeds shed hair twice a year heavily and less all year round, it's the way it goes. Shaving the dog would be admitting you didn't think it through properly before getting it. Unless the dog has issues with heat stroke in the summer, there really is no excuse for shaving a breed like that. They're supposed to look the way they do.

thanks.

i asked the people we adopted them from and was informed that they do shed, though much like regular dogs do, NOT like this shake

after more reading on the net though, i think they are simply blowing out there coats, which means this is a very seasonal thing - they say its worst in the spring - so hopefully we will all be better in a few weeks.

and, if its not better, then i WILL have them shaved nod not because i didnt think it through, but because these dogs live in MY house... im not living in theirs no no no! therefore, they need to be able to get along in my home with the love that we have to give. i agreed to care for them, entertain them, love them, teach them, and look out for their interests.... NOT to give my home to them disbelief

I own a Corgi, and I have him shaved in the summer. I got him when I was younger (he's thirteen), so I really didn't have a grasp on the fact that a dog with such a thick coat would be miserable in the summer here in Houston. He looks rather silly, but he's not vain! He perks up so much when he gets his shave, you can tell he's more comfortable. All I care about is that the little dude is feeling good!
