I'm Ashamed to Admit..... that I don't like my new job. The other thing that I don't like about this job is that I don't think I want to be a bookkeeper, since numbers was never my thing anyway. I knew that the job was a bookkeeper position when I accepted it, BUT I did not know just how much bookkeeping was involved and how detailed it was. It was supposed to also be a word processing job, but truth is, the bookkeeping seems to be a large part of the position. I'm not really looking for a bookkeeping job anyway, truth be told, but I took the job because I was having a hell of a time finding a position, and I needed to start having some money coming in, since unemployment ran out. I really feel that the person who works in this position should have more of an accounting background (something that I don't have). I'm embarrassed to even tell my family and friends that I don't like my job, and it's really got me down. I feel bad complaining about it, especially since it took me 9 months to find a job, but I really don't think that this is where I want to be working. Now my older brothers are calling/emailing congratulating me on my new job, and I don't want to tell them that I don't like it. I don't like to sound nitpicky, but I honestly don't think that this job is a good fit for me. Today when the other secretaries said goodbye to the person who I was replacing, they said that they would miss her. She said something to the effect of her missing them too, then added that she "would not miss this" (meaning her job). She then looked at me as if to say, "I know I shouldn't be saying that in front of you with you being new and all, but I'm being honest here." I thought to myself, "Well, that's kind of a shitty thing to say right in front of the new person." Even if I absolutely HATED a job that I was leaving, I would not make such a comment in front of a new employee, ESPECIALLY in front of the person who was replacing me who was standing right there when the comment was being made. Should I stay at the job until I find something else (although I don't know how long that would be, maybe another 9 months) or should I just give them my 2 weeks notice now? I hate to spend my time working at a place that I'm not really thrilled about, but I'm also not happy about not having any money coming in either. I could live off my savings, but I don't really want to do that either. I'm confused, and need some words of guidance here. Thanks. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

If you really don't like this job, then move on. Stay where you are and send out resumes. At least there will be $$ coming in while you are job hunting again.

At a past office job, I only had 1 day of training because the girl training me had her baby the next day 1 day of training is not much at all! Sometimes you get thrown into a job, the employer may want to see how you handle stress or if you can take charge. Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! True, but I don't seem to handle that very well. I've been in this situation several other times, and it never seemed to work out the way I was hoping it would (which is why I'm pondering if I should even stay). RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I think I was so excited about getting a job offer that I neglected that part. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Aww.....if you don't like it, go out looking for another one you DO like. But you have to continue working where you are until you have found your new job and have started already. Then, use up ALL of your sick and vacation days at once. But you must use them when you have to start on your first day of work at your OTHER job which the one your working for now knows NOTHING about. When they call your house, tell them "Oh I'm sorry, I quit, I will be expecting my paycheck when I come up there soon, bye *click*" And that's the end of that. You were being paid for NOT going which is genius all on it's own, and you were working another job and receiving money for that as well. The shit is halarious! Try it. I know it seems bogus, but if you really don't like the job/ people there, why continue working there?
My plan is genius, and I'm SURE it has been done before. ------;;;;;'

Psych... I have been here...a least a few times before. I have always stayed a while...more than a few weeks I'm afraid...once or twice it actually worked out and once or twice it did not. In the end, though, I was very glad I hung in there. I was always able to move to something else because I did! I hope you can think of that as you decide what to do and know that sometimes...well you know the whole lemons to lemonade thing! Hang in there sweetie...either way it will get better...rest assured!!! ![]() "We love you from the bottom of our hearts to the top of our souls...thank you!" nancy... don't be ashamed. be honest with your friends and family. you are relieved to have found something but have reservations then talk things out with them. they love you and will support your decision whatever that may be
having said that - think about what you can say for your next job interview... "i was put into a demanding position and took on new rolls, learning many new things - i was left to be self taught on many aspects of the job and overcame the added stresses and demands on my time" give yourself time - no one can expect you to be able to do the job after such scant training. like 9s said... you have to give yourself a couple weeks before you make your decision but above all don't be ashamed!!! good grief girl we have all been there ![]()

I think you should accept all of the "congratulations" you are getting, and hang in there.
We all have to do things we don't like, in one aspect or another.

Nancy ~ I may be miles away, but if you have any questions that I (as a bookkeeper) may be able to help you with just OrgNote me! I do check in here quite often though I've been quiet as of late.
