NPR vs. Sheep!! In my many growing phases of life, I have come to migrate completely to the left side of the radio dial. Far away from mainstream radio programming and their "shepherd" induced playlists.
While I am not a fan of the radio period, when I do turn it on, I am very much into NPR and subscriber based radio stations as they are very informative on mainstream issues but will dive alot deeper within in their dialogues and radio shows. Plus the music!!! Whew what a relief to hear ecclectic sounds sometimes without having to play "dj" myself all the time. When I wish to take a break away from my vast collection...it is the left side of the dial for me.... I get to hear sounds from Morcheeba, Zap Mamma, Koop, Kruder and Dorfmeister, The Diningrooms, Groove Armada, just to name a few! Then there are the dj's that don't do the "sheep" feeding either...very much rooted in the history of music and play GOOD MUSIC! How about you? The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read them. -- Mark Twain.

NPR is cool - if i have to listen to radio or just plain don't wanna bother with my CDs, it makes for good background noise. i usually walk away from it knowing a little bit more than i did before i turned it on. plus, there's no melodramatic pundit caterwauling going on, which is always refreshing for talk radio these days. sure, they tend to lean to the left, but i've heard NPR programs criticize the left enough times to not feel completely patronized. i think they're pretty right on.

the only non-NPR radio station i've thoroughly enjoyed over the past decade or so has been WFMU in new york. there's always something wacky going on at that station at any given moment, and i've gotten turned on to some really obscure, funky stuff from them.
they give some mean wrecka shows too.

Morning sounds eclectic is good, Blueprint is very good, and Chocolate City is off the chain! Yeah, I'm a member of KPFK as well. I prefer KCRW's music, and KPFK's news/reporting. They seem to be a little more left. Both great stations. http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

Hey you! Thanks for the tip! Seriously, this is why I laugh whenever I hear the right talking about the liberal media. They have no idea what liberal is because I guarantee you if the media as a whole, the mainstream media that reaches the vast majority of Americans, were this liberal the Bush administration would be in a shitload of trouble despite how many supporters they have. Most Americans are sensible people, it's just that so many do not get the information they need. The media is controlled by the right but they act as if there is a monster, a problem that needs solving. It's the only way they can mobilize their base, keep them flipped out and afraid. It's sad. Things will change 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Did you hear the bit last week where they were addressing about PBS and NPR being too "liberal"? These conservatives are freaking out because it's not one of their bully pulpits but it sure isn't a liberal bully pulpit either. Those folks on KPFK will eat you alive. Conservatives have no idea what it's like dealing with people who will really challenge them. That is why they are trying to destroy the reputation of outfits like NPR because by looking in command, peoople think they are in command. I look for the day when they truly find themselves facing real political and media opposition. This administration has had it made in the shade. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

The conservative view is that any voice that isn't "their" voice is a bad one. Actaully, that's pretty true across politics these days. We are so polarized that there is little room for tolerance. So sad. http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista
