bank nightmare

Got a call from my rental company this morning. They said the money order I gave them (from a well known bank) had been dishonored. WTF? Before I handed the money order to the gal at the rental office, I made sure everything was correct, including the amount. So, I looked at the "stub" this morning...there are zeros accross the amount of the money order.....looked at my statement to make sure the money was deducted from my account, which it was.....WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED??? So I went straight to the bank. Come to find, the bank made a huge error.....the bad part about it, is they wanted me to wait 90 days to replace the money order.....HELL NO!!!! I yelled, cursed and told them I was not going to leave until I got an "official check"...so I finally got my way.....but I dont think they like me very much.....

Anyone have any bank nightmares they would like to share.....

Here on earth, here on earth,

Here on earth, here on earth

yeah, but it was kind of my fault. i puchased some stuff online from Amazon and i had my preferences set up for a bank account i hadn't been depositing any funds into. Anyways, i purchased a bunch of stuff from Amazon, but for some reason instead of deducting one lump some they itemized each purchase which made several withdrawl from my account which had very little money. i ended up over drafting and each overdraft cost $30 i think in the end i ended paying $200 in OD charges!! would've been more if i didn't bitch about it!! i made a mistake and click on that account as payment instead the one that had funds, but the bastids could see that all of the purchases were made at the same time and were just itemized. pout

I work at a big bank...You did the correct thing. You paid them for a check...they should give you the check in the correct amount.

In mid December last year I was going to go to Sweden over Christmas so I gave my landlord an early check for the January rent. I made sure I made it out for Jan 1 2005 since I knew I would get money at the end of the month. But then the bank still let the landlord cash it, so I ended up having no money left on the account. I was in the middle of doing my Christmas shopping and suddenly I didn't even have money for food.

When I confronted the bank with this they said that they "don't recommend writing pre-dated checks". I told them that doesn't make any sense. Either you can do that or you can't. You can't recommend your customers to not trust your system! lol

I ended up having to borrow money from friends to survive because the bank wouldn't correct their mistake. Fucking RBC! They're too big to care about their customers.

REALLY? They are not supposed to accept post dated checks. It's against the law to cash a post dated check...or something. Thing is there was nothing they could do...that wouldn't have been a hassle for them. I think had you bitched some more, you would have gotten them to reverse it. They would have to call the landlord and explain.

A good rule of thumb is to tell the person you gave it too that it is POST dated and not to submit it in until after the date.

Yeah, I guess I could have bitched some more. I don't know why I didn't. Maybe it was the Christmas spirit that had gotten to me. smile I'm sure I would have given them hell if this had happened yesterday.

I didn't tell the landlord it was postdated because I just took it for granted that they understood that the only reason I gave it to them early was that I was leaving the country the next day. But I suppose she was desperate for Christmas money too.

Thanks for letting me know that I was right.
