F*ck Me!!! F*ck Me!! The Return of the Great DAVID LYNCH!! INLAND EMPIRE!!!

Lynch's got a new flick called INLAND EMPIRE! Sweet!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here... It's Cannes time at the moment, so that means lots of film announcements, but this one is far out of left field. I'm so happy that Lynch has got a new film ready to show.

He's most definitely bat-fuck insane, but damned if he doesn't always make something unique and compelling. And could this film be the one talked about below, the film that reteams Lynch with BLUE VELVET and WILD AT HEART's Laura Dern? Or do we have two potential new Lynch flicks?

What little info on INLAND EMPIRE that's below sounds surreal, of course. I can't wait!

okay, so we have more info now and this is what is shocking to me...this film is complete and being released to Cannes *this* week.

now, with our current cultural climate we usually get some type of heads up when i a film is being worked on....when i first read that this was coming out i figured it was still a work in progress....till i found this:

The Empire Strikes Back
Posted on Thr, 12-May-2005

Dressed in a 'Blue Velvet' suit, David Lynch hopes a car to 'Twin Peaks' - deciding the 'Mulholland Drive' route is the quickest and easiest way to get there. Unfortunately, the car slides off the road, and into a 'Dune'.

Yup, obvioulsy someone bows at the funky flip-flops of David Lynch.

Reason to celebrate Lynch-ites, the wicket-keeper of weird is returning to what he does best. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lynch's next film will be unveiled at Cannes this week.

Details are sketchy - even the posters in Cannes for the film have been covered up, until the announcement - but "Inland Empire" is said to be typical Lynch. "It's about a film within a film. There's nothing to see, there's no script," one top international buyer said.

Believed to be involved in the film - which has been shooting scenes for two years now - are Lynch faves Laura Dern, Justin Theroux, Harry Dean Stanton, as well as acclaimed actor Jeremy Irons.

A few months back we mentioned that Australian actor Kick Gurry was making a movie with David Lynch. This could very well be the same movie.

"It's about a woman in trouble, and it's a mystery, and that's about all I want to say about it," Lynch tells Variety. The title refers to the bleak residential area on the edge of the desert near Los Angeles".

French sales and distribution company StudioCanal is backing the project, which they've been trying to keep under wraps for a while now.

how the hell do you make a film with big names like that and not a single person in the world leaked it..i google my favorite artist (wendy and lisa, lynch and a couple others) to see if any word of new work will be coming out....i find more articles about whats up with wendy then i have with lynch the last few years.....

i am shocked!!!

This shocks me too! I had no idea he was doing this. The latest I heard was he was putting together the FWWM commentary and wrapping that up.

Very exciting news. I really enjoyed the last one...it's one of my favorites.

i heard the title 'inland empire' getting knocked around for a while, but nothing much else. for some reason, i seem to remember crispin glover mentioning it in an interview, about possibly having a small part in it (unless that's just my wishful thinking gone into overdrive)...but that title certainly rings a bell. awesome. i'm ready for a new lynch film. nod

Filmmakers making films about filmmakers is just as dull as authors writing books about authors. A little more creativity please! Still, I'm looking forward to it. Although not always good, his work is always interesting.

He's o.k,, I guess. confused
He's not nearly as in touch with young minds, nor does he flesh out his characters quite to the same depth as the genius of Sam Firstenburg.

Sam's work often defies genres, and always defies expectations.

There are a few good ones out there. Singing In The Rain was pretty decent, for example. But I'd say they're good despite being about filmmaking and not because of it. You would think that they would make something interesting about a topic they know so well, but most of the time the product comes across as self-indulgent and poorly structured. I think it's because they're too preoccupied with in-jokes and scattered observations to actually tell a good story. Just my opinion.
