Goyer talks Batman...and the return of the Clown Prince of Crime!!!!

From Aint it Cool News:

Goyer speaks BATMAN BEGINS sequels and a certain joker is brought up...
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here... I'm a big fan of seeing a reimagined Joker in a potential sequel to BATMAN BEGINS... what would you call that, by the way? BATMAN CONTINUES? BATMAN BEGINS... AGAIN? Anyway, seems David Goyer chatted with Premiere Magazine and detailed some of the structure of possible sequels to BATMAN BEGINS. Who do you want to face down Christian Bale? Who'd look great in the white, green and red? Crispin Glover has my vote. What about Harvey Dent? I wanna see Arkham on the big screen! For real! Without neon!
As read in the latest Premiere magazine featuring Batman Begins, Goyer states the next film will involve the Joker ... "The next one would have Batman enlisting the aid of Gordon and Dent in bringing down the Joker- .... but not killing him, which is a mistake they made in the first one". The article then says that "In the third, the Joker would go on trial, scarring Dent in the process."

Sounds like the setup for an amazing trilogy (at least, trilogy in terms of original cast ... as I believe Bale, Oldman and Caine all signed 3 picture deals).

I'd like to see Dennis Quaid as The Joker, he just needs some white makeup and he's set... His smile is already as freaky as The Joker's...

I could see Quaid if they did The Dark Knight Returns as a film. As it is, I think he's too old. My personal choice would be Ed Norton. I think he's got the right build, and he could nail both the psychotic Joker, as well as the meek, downtrodden criminal he once was from The Killing Joke

Edward Norton would indeed be excellent, he didn't even cross my mind...

i love 'clowny clown clown' and his whole bizarro hippie beatnik phase. of course, i don't think he ever completely UN-phased from being a grade A weirdo, and god bless him for that. he made a few movies as his wig-wearing alter-ego, "rubin & ed" and "twister" being the first two that come to mind ("river's edge" might have inspired the wig, but i don't think he'd established the alter-ego persona yet), and in recent years, he's depended more on his creepy, quirky, morbid persona in movies like "bartleby" and "willard" (both of which i highly recommend if you want a crispin fix).

as if you couldn't tell, i'm a huge fan of the man. love

He's awesome, and would make a fantastic Joker. Hell, I only saw those Charlie's Angels movies because of him!

he was the ONLY reason i saw charlies angels 2, and i thought he was HOTT in it. i'm glad they killed him, so i won't have to sit through any more of those dumb movies. lol

i think crispin would make a wonderful joker, but i also think it's too easy of a casting choice. i'd like to see them cast someone who at first you'd think "HE'S gonna play THE JOKER?!" disbelief and then ultimately have it pay off as a really cool casting choice. that's what i'd like to see. buscemi might be an easy choice too, but we've never really seen him play evil and maniacal with a comic book villain/camp edge. if crispin were somehow cast in the role, though, i certainly wouldn't complain. smile

I agree. I think Norton would be perfect, because he is just "normal" enough, but can bring out that dark side when needed. Glover would be awesome, but is (perhaps) a bit too obvious.

As for Charlie's Angels, those movies were pretty stupid (although, the show was pretty insipid as well, so at least they were being true to the source material), but they did have some pretty "out there" comic moments (most featuring Glover). The only way I want to see another one is if Glover is given a HUGE, important role, and they just go frigin' hog wild with the bizzaro humour hinted at in the first two.

I like Jim Carrey, but he isn't really suited to ANY of the Dark Knight's rouges (not even the Riddler). I don't blame him for Batman Forever (which sounds more like a prom theme than a film, but I digress), but rather Joel Schumacher. Ol' Joel should never be let near any comic film property again, unless they decide to greenlight an "Amiguosly Gay Duo" movie.

He was a big fan of the shorts on SNL (which were, in themselves, inspired by Schumacher's Batman & Robin travesty. He did the painting just for the fun of it.

Not to my knowledge. If so, it must still be in pre-production. Hilarious idea, although it's rather hit-or-miss with the success of SNL movies. For every Wayne's World or Blue's Brothers, there's five or six films like It's Pat.

well, i know stephen colbert said the movie was a go and that he was going to be part of it (he's one of the voices in the cartoon)...i dunno if colbert is going to help write it (i hope so, he's hysterical) or just lend a voice or, if it's live action, play one of the duo.
