It never gets that far. I tell them right away that I am not interested and politely hang-up.

Me too. I don't even let them get their first sentence out. To be honest, I hate telemarketers. We usually get 2-3 calls per night. It gets out of hand and I usually hang up quickly. I realize people have to work, but I'd just as soon never receive another telelmarketer call again.

This one female telemarketer kept calling me "Hon" and "Honey". I asked her if we had ever slept together, and if we hadn't, for her to please stop calling me that. That seemed to work! biggrin

ah yes. telemarketers, the Jehovah's Witnesses of sales techniques.
biggrin

when telemarketers call i usually screen their asses and that takes care of it. occasionally i'll be awaiting a call and will pick up without checking to see who it is first.

when the sales prog on the line starts babbling about their special offer i usually interrupt their routine by asking 'excuse me is this call for the purpose of marketing or promotion?' and when they say 'yes' i remind them about the do-not call list which i'm on and warn them not to call back.

the real trick is to speak extremely rapidly so as to not give them a chance to continue with their sales pitch, which they will if you let them get a word in edgewise

Sure, but I know how to get rid of them without making them feel like shit. Because I've been a telemarketer myself. It takes a minute and both of us get out feeling ok.

They call, give me the "lure trap" of how I'm worthy of a present or am such an old loyal customer that I deserve a little bonus....yadda. Here I usually realize who it is and what they want.
If they talk really fast I let them give the whole sell speech, agreeing when asked that it does sound like a nice discount or whatever. Then when they are out of breath I tell them that it does sound nice but I'm not going to buy anything, thank you. If they are really persistent I'll tell them that I'm a student and my mom gets almost all the monthly magazines from friends anyway (they are almost all magazine-sellers).
If the marketer isn't quite as quick to launch into his/her sales speech or if I'm in a hurry or feeling cranky I'll ask what the product it, after the answer I'll politely tell I have no need for the product in any kind of a deal or discount, but so nice of him/her to call. Here they say "oh....thank you for your time, have a nice day" and I say m goodbyes.

I do not hang up or yell or act rude because I know what an awful job it is. I was not good at it, and my day could be absolutely ruined by someone yelling at me to stick the magazines where the daylight don't shine. Not good.

I used to be a telemarketer when i was 16.
I made about $13/hr which was pretty good considering it was a part time job. Trust me, it's better than McDonalds.

The good thing was, all i did was sit on the phone all the time.
The bad thing was muthafuckas like you people in this topic who do nasty things.

Some people told me to fuck off.
Some people were polite.
Some actually bought the product eek
Once a girl asked for my home phone number..... which was against my policy to give it to her so i didn't.
Once some lady asked if i've eaten pussy...

Trust me, it's one of the most interesting jobs with all the different people you call

my friend suggested this trick, and I love doing it...

When they call and ask for someone specific or the "head of the household", I go, "sure, hold on one moment and let me go get him". Then I set the phone down and go back to watching TV, leaving them waiting there indefinitely till they hang up.
