Spangett the GLEAMING WHITE Sugar Cube SPANGETT THE GLEAMING WHITE SUGAR CUBE - By AB777 Spangett the gleaming white sugar cube looked down at the little puddle of water below her. She looked up at her father and asked him, “daddy, why are the other sugar cubes down there? In the water?” “Those aren’t sugar cubes, my love, “ her father replied, “they are stones. Unfeeling, stones, lacking any zest or taste.” Spangett pondered this for a minute and felt saddened, for her heart was like an open room filled with warmth compared to the cold empty world around her. A world without flavor was something she knew little about, but imagined it could only be a aweful place. “Are stones any separate from us?” she asked. “No, my love”, her father replied. “They are all substance, as we are substance. They just know nothing about sweetness.” “Well, can we not teach them?” she asked. “No, my love”, her father replied. “The water will kill you. And the stones will still remain stones. It is late. Go to sleep my love.” That evening Spangett the gleaming white sugar cube looked down upon the stones. Quiet. Dull. Grey. Lacking sweetness in the water. She knew that they could be taught sweetness. She knew that if they too were substance, than they where no different from her once that substance learned to morph, once the soot of hate washed away revealing the gleam of white hot sweetness. She walked over to the puddle’s edge. Looked up at her sleeping father and blew him a kiss. She jumped in. I can’t say that Spangett the gleaming white sugar cube turned every dull, grey, stone into a sugar cube before she parished. But she did turn a few.
