The best film ever (for the whole family)......

has to be.....

Go ahead and laugh suckers. I can only dream to one day make a movie as good as this. Sure it is sorta like hamlet, but disney even got the songs and score right. The characters, the voices, the pacing, the narration. This is not my fav movie ever, but it is pretty much the best movie suitable for 4 year olds through to 104 year olds.

I gotta repsect this film. ot even my fav cartoon but it is a rarity of art VS universal enjoyment and triunphing on virtually all bases of waht makes a good movie.

I'd say Caligula is a pretty awesome family movie.

I rather like it. biggrin

One time, I watched it with my ex/current. He got up and turned it off at the part where the chick is getting wanked on by lots of men. He said something like, "Time to turn it off." Then, minutes later, he pulled me off to his bedroom. I thought surely to goodness the movie wasn't getting him all hot and bothered.

We proceeded to have sex, and then right in the middle of it, he quit. His words were like: "I can't do it now. I keep thinking of those guys spanking it on that chick. Forget it." And that was the end. confused

so are the rumours spread about the racist 'hidden messages' in puffs of smoke in the Lion King true, or was that all bollocks?

i know there were also some complaints about the way that the 'bad guys' were all dark coloured or had hispanic accents, and that the way the pride was projected was sexist.

Who cares. I hate rumours like that. Thats why I quit film studies. Analysis is pointless to that depth (even more so with music)

I was just watching the film the other day and thought "damn, this film is still good and Iam 19 now". Not many films I saw as a kid have the same affect on me now (like "little rascals or "ritchie rich".)

My fav cartoon film is proberly "all dogs go to heaven".

well...i care, for one. confused what do you mean, 'analysis is pointless to that depth'? i'm talking about barely any analysis at all! lol i'm not writing York Notes on the Lion King, here. wink

and if we can't analyse music, then i may as well go and kill myself right now. smile but i'm taking you down with me, damn it! mad

all dogs go to heaven is a really average film, IMO. Secret of Nimh & An American Tail were far superior, and Bluth should've quit while he was ahead.

U just reminded me of my film studes classes. Sometimes I just get annoyed the anaysis of anything in general (this is past the "i like it because" stage)

Anyway. "secret of nimh" sucked on the second half. Very well animanted though. But the narration was dodgy later on in the film.

Ha "an american tail". I got the soundtrack on cd (and "Land before time" and "Lion king", "oliver and co" for that matter)

I still hear "somewhere outthere" sometimes. It's a nice song.

i adore the American Tail soundtrack especially. The score is gorgeous. cute songs, but the score's the thing.

I should add, re: Don Bluth - Titan AE totally kicked ass. Awesome movie. So i'm glad he didn't quit after AT. wink

Yeah I like the score to "american tale" too. "Land before time" is even better score wise, but that albu is hard to find.

"titan ae" was very odd for bluth. But it worked though. But that movie bombed. I forget where he is now? As for the "lion king" directors? I think one of them did "haunted mansion" with edie murphy eek Which sorta means "lion king" was truly a lucky one off. I think disney did not even have much faith on the movie to begin with. They dont do "animal movies" much anymore sad

Kids will love it and adults will find some super funny ass stuff in there. Great voices that many grownups will recognize like David Spade, John Goodman, Patrick Warburton, Wendie Malick and for the lover's of gay icon's, Eartha Kitt, as this woman!

I was very surprised that this movie didn't appear to do all that well in the theathers but it hopefully had a shelf life on video/dvd.

Wait.... the bad guys were like Nazis. There's that scene where Scar is up on that rock and they are singing "be prepared" and the other animals are goose steping.... how are they hispanic then? confuse

It is pointless to rip it apart. Take it as a whole. nod

Spookymuffin

halfway to three-fourths of the way through the film, Simba, Pumbaa, and Timon are lying on their backs, looking up at the stars. Simba arises, walks over to the edge of a cliff, and flops to the ground, throwing up a cloud of dust. Eddies of dust form and dissipate in the roiling cloud, and at one point the various curves and angles in these eddies appear to form the letters S-E-X. It takes a bit of persistence to see specific letters in the shapes formed by the swirling dust clouds, even when the video is played in slow motion.

Whether the image of the word "SEX" was deliberately planted in this scene or is merely a product of the power of suggestion is unknown. The letters seem readily apparent to those who know what they're supposed to be looking for, but persons unfamiliar with the rumor rarely make them out even after being told to look for a word in the still-frame images. The generally accepted explanation is that the letters were slipped in by a special effects group (to form the abbreviation "S-F-X").

A 4-year-old boy from New York (or Louisiana), viewing the video with his head tilted to the left, supposedly noticed the appearance of the letters S-E-X and told his mother (or aunt) about it. (How a mere 4-year-old could both spell and understand the significance of the word "sex" remains unexplained. When you want to charge a huge corporate conglomerate with slipping nasties into its supposedly wholesome children's films, however, it's best to pretend an unwitting child made the discovery. This method increases the outrage factor -- if a 4-year-old found the word "S-E-X" in a video all by himself, why, then anybody's child might see it, too.) His mother (or aunt) in turn notified a religious organization called the American Life League, who claimed this was yet another occurrence of Disney's deliberately inserting hidden images into their animated films. The American Life League, which had already been boycotting Disney films since the previous April, made this rumor the highlight of their September 1995 publicity campaign against several Disney videos allegedly containing "sexual messages."

I don't put those movies in the same league as "lion king". "shrek" is good, but the jokes are too "seen it al before" type of thing. It also is devoid of any depth. Too many computer animated flicks are going for the same lame laughs now.

Maybe the animanl thing attracts me to cartoons in general. It is harder to pull off and usually more interesting. Heck "fox and the hound" beats anything pixar have done (bar the "toy story" series).

Western cartoons these days are uninspired. No one will take risks, with exceptions like "titan ae" "the iron giant".

"anastasia" (spelling?) is a good film, but it flopped.

Mind u, I seem to love "oliver and co", which is very formulaic. But I like the pacing and songs.

I admit to missing this. Infact I did not even know this existed 'till about a year back. "Treasure planet" was the most goegeous animated film to come out since "lion king", and it was more mature then ur average disney movie. But for some reason, the movie lacked much "magic".
