as long as they dont let jim carrey near the role !!!

I like Jim Carrey, but he isn't really suited to ANY of the Dark Knight's rouges (not even the Riddler). I don't blame him for Batman Forever (which sounds more like a prom theme than a film, but I digress), but rather Joel Schumacher. Ol' Joel should never be let near any comic film property again, unless they decide to greenlight an "Amiguosly Gay Duo" movie.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Joel Schumacher should be shot for turning the Dark Knight into a Broadway dance review.

Crispin Glover as the Joker is a good idea, but I've always wanted to see Wilhem DaFoe as the Clown Prince.

DaFoe would be good, but it would be a bit of repetition for him after playing the Green Goblin.

Wow. I see some good ideas in this thread. I agree with all of your comments on Crispin Glover, Steve Buscemi (nice one, Anx) and even Dennis Quaid. I'd never thought of those guys.
I also had no idea that Bale, Oldman and Caine signed 3 picture deals. Sweet!

i think dennis quaid could fit in with the style of jack nichoson's joker if they wanted to play some consistency with the previous movies - i don't know how concerned they are about that - but he could definitely play a good joker. as much as i love crispin and would not be at all disappointed in seeing him cast in the role, i don't know if we'd get the transformation if they decided to hit the restart button and recreate the character from scratch, especially going with the comic book origin of him being a pathetic washed-up schmoe comedian whose id just goes wild when he becomes the joker...he could proably pull it off, but i don't think crispin could really capture the grit of the pre-joker character. buscemi absolutely could, and i think it would be amazing to see how he changes from being mired in a depressing reality to being caught in a mindsweep in which he's suddenly creating his own surreal reality as the joker. i'd love to see it. dafoe would be good, but it might be a little weird after seeing him as the green goblin.

Well, Batman Begins DOES start the continuity all over, so I doubt they'll bother with finding consistency with the previous films. This movie completely ignores the previous four.

Oh, I don't know. I think Glover COULD pull it off! Just watch him in Willard. Yes, he is already kinda cuckoo, but he becomes more and more unhinged as the film goes on.

Still, I stand by Ed Norton. I think he has the range to totally go from the downtrodden comedian to the psychotic Joker.

oh, i absolutely think he could do unhinged...he was brilliant in 'willard' and i can totally see potential for a joker-type character from watching that movie or any other crispin vehicle, really. but i'm also kinda interested in the pathetic, besotted-upon schlub that he is before the accident turns him into the joker. the transformation from the loser comedian to the crown prince of crime is something i don't think has been captured yet, and i wonder if glover could portray the former as well as the latter part of the character. even if he failed, i'm sure it would be a very interesting, captivating failure.

I wasn't aware of the Joker's past. That would be an interesting road to go down.
It's good that they're ignoring the previous four flicks.
