Pride Season is approaching. I think it would be cool if left a post up of what Pride events we are attending if any.
Personally. I'll be marching with the LA boys of Leather and volunteering at Long Beach Pride May 21-22 and Los Angeles Pride June 11-22. I'll be on the float and working the booth for the San Diego Gay and Lesbian Times for San Diego Pride. July 30-31 I think I'm going to Palm Springs Pride November 5-6. and not techinally a pride event I'll be at IML in Chicago May 21-31st http://www.capride.org/ [Edited 5/8/05 22:27pm] You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna

I was supposed to go to the one in Vancouver this year but my plans fell through. I will probably attend the San Jose, Ca. Pride and the San Francisco Pride. Yawn!!!! Unfortunately I've gone to them forever so they're kind of boring. I've always wanted to go to a small town Pride just to shake things up and be a Bar Star.
I've always wanted to ride behind DYKES ON BIKES with a sign that read JOTO ON A MOTO which translates to fag on a motorcycle in Spanish. It's the only thing that rhymes. I can also write MIKE ON A BIKE (my name Miguel translates to Michael) M MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! One thing that confuses me about Pride parades is that they appear so comic.
Homosexuals have a long way to go to achieve equality and respect, but some of those floats and stuff just seems to defeat the purpose. It would be like African Americans marching in Montgomery portraying every mean stereotype one can place on them, me thinks.

Some of us think that it really doesn't matter what we look like or how we act at the parade. I hate it when gay guys say bad things about drag queens or they want the DYKES to put their shirts on while they're on the DYKES ON BIKES. If it wasn't for a bunch of Puerto Rican drag queens gay rights would not have started. I think the funnier the parade the better. It gets too serious some times. It should be 50/50. What really irks me is how we'er portrayed by some of the anti-gay Christians in their videos. I want to go to one of their meetings and show them a video of Mardi Gras or Spring Break. How about Hedonism in the Carribean, the Club Med for Swingers. Hello. We're not the only ones. M p.s. I'm not raggin on you AB. You know I love you more than my Versace Jacket, D&G Belt, Pumas and Kenneth Coles combined. MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! I understand the concern about image and message but these religious haters are gonna throw our asses under the bus whether we're in leather, drag, dykes riding bikes or conservative Log cabin republicans. They'll throw us all in hell. These parades are about celebrating and being open and free. You have to realize to that so many people who attend these things are those who are just coming out or coming to terms with their sexuality or exploring. They are living their life like they've never lived it before. And Miguel is absolutely right, nobody blinks an eye over Girls gone wild, Mardi Gras or spring break. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

But my concern stemmed from social conservatives and they're take on it. I these same conservatives say nothing about mardis gras, etc. But they don't have predisposed hatred towards boxum young women. It's just something I found strange about pride marches. It's almost like they allow the conservatives to say "look, see? There they go!" I never thought about it as a celebration in the community before--I always thought it was a social awareness thing for the rest of the community.

As long as we live our truth, it doesn't matter how flagrant or privately we live it. If we're living it, we're sinning. It does provide fodder but if it wasn't that it would be something else, guarantee. I agree it is problematic from the standpoint that you are giving these people something to work with, but we can't stop living life to keep them from having weapons with which to use against us. They'd figure out something else if this weren't an issue. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

But i've come to realize the Parades and the Festivals are to celebrate who we are, what we've done, and how far we've come. So fuck the Conservatives. I didn't go to any local Pride events last year, because it pretty much consisted of a picnic, a softball game, 25% off drinks at Prima's (a local gay-friendly restaurant) and a dance that cost 30$ to get in to. I would've gone to the dance, if admission hadn't been equivalent almost 4 hours of pay.
I haven't heard anything about what's going on this year though (the ORC is pretty low-key. It's a conservative town.) so maybe I'll check it out this year. [Edited 5/9/05 22:57pm] "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"
