DAVE CHAPPELLE SHOW- "ON HOLD"???

VH-1 just reported that the new season for the Dave Chappelle Show has been (again) put on hold. The show's new season was originally supposed to start on Comedy Central on Tuesday, May 31st 2005, but the network made a statement that the show is on "indefinite hold". In the immortal words of Florida Evans....DAMN, DAMN, DAMN!!!!! sad

I read an article in Rollingstone not too long ago about the show and all these rumors as to why it's taking so long. They mentioned Dave Chappelle might have writers block!

By the way, Why is that saying by Florida Evans so popular? I guess it's because it was so dramatic. That shit is hilarious, especially how people still remember it and quote it to this day.

That's probably right Dancerella. Dave is just doing so much these days, he probably hasn't had a chance to write some new comedy for his own show. As for the Florida Evans reference, I've been watching the DVD collections of "Good Times" lately..kinda snuck up on me! (lol)

I still remember that episode when she said it and then dropped a plate or something. So much drama. then I remember Martin Laurence doing it on his show. Too funny!

I think Dave Chappelle picked up the ball where Martin Lawerance dropped it..But Martin is still funny. His next movie is due this summer. He supposedly plays a crazy basketball coach in this one. I really wish his old show "Martin" would hit the DVD racks.

I Thought I read that Dave was suffering from some sort of illness.... Anyone no if this is true? By the way Martin is no where near as funny... He's been getting by on the same jokes from his tv show for years....

Ooooooh....hope he's not a Method actor...

It's hard to stay focused, especially if you're young and rich.

Hard to keep coming up with good bits, but that's why you hire writers.

I wish him well. I really do, no matter why the show is being delayed.

I'm Dave Chappelle, BITCH!

Report: Pressure Behind 'Chappelle' Delay 35 minutes ago

NEW YORK - Dave Chappelle is under pressure, according to a Newsweek report. The star of Comedy Central's popular "Chappelle's Show," is exhausted due to tension, partying and creative differences with Comedy Central, causing last week's halt in the show's production, the report said.

"I saw him start trippin' when the buzz started to get real loud," one unidentified celebrity friend told Newsweek. "I think he was in shock after the first season, and then (during) the second, it hit him that he was the man. That freaked him. And then came the pressure of living up to expectations for the third season. He's never been there — where something's so good and you got to come even stronger the next time. It was too much."

Neither Comedy Central publicist Tony Fox nor Chappelle's spokesman, Matt Labov, has discussed what caused the halt in production or how long it will last. The third season was to premiere May 31.

Another source pointed to the 31-year-old actor-comedian's partying, although Labov has denied that his client has a drug problem.

"Everyone knows Dave likes to have fun," a music industry source said. "I wouldn't say it's out of control ... but at some point that has to affect you if you've got a regular gig."

Newsweek writer Devin Gordon visited the set in November 2004, just a few weeks into shooting on the third season. Gordon didn't notice any out of the ordinary behavior.

The Newsweek report claims Chappelle wants to delve into more controversial racial issues, unsettling "Comedy Central" executives; Comedy Central and an employee in Chappelle's camp said last week the delay "is not a network issue."

"Dave is not compromising what he wants to do," another source said. "He's waited a long time for this chance, and he's not trying to do anything that isn't 100 percent his vision."

Report: Chappelle in Psych Facility

Wed May 11, 8:18 PM ET

He hasn't been seen on set for weeks. His hit show has been shut down. His friends are speculating on various reasons for his purported meltdown.

Now comes word that Dave Chappelle is undergoing treatment in a psychiatric facility in South Africa.

Quoting an unnamed source "close to the situation," Entertainment Weekly said Wednesday that the comedian flew to South Africa late last month and voluntarily checked himself into the undisclosed facility. There is no word on the nature of his ailment or how long he will be hospitalized.

Sources confirmed to E! last week that Chappelle had been a no-show at work for several days. On May 4, Comedy Central abruptly announced Chappelle's Show wouldn't make its May 31 third season launch and that production had been halted indefinitely.

"All parties are optimistic that production will resume in the near future," network spokesman Tony Fox said in a statement.

Chappelle's publicist, Matt Labov, has not publicly commented since Chappelle disappeared.

The entertainer reportedly flew from Newark, New Jersey, to Capetown, South Africa, on Apr. 28 to seek treatment.

The EW report trumps earlier speculation in the latest edition of Newsweek. Several unnamed friends of the entertainer posited different theories explaining his absence to the newsmag. One said Chappelle "freaked" and didn't know how to deal with the breakout success of Chappelle's Show, which has become a full-blown pop-culture phenomenon and led to Chappelle signing an unprecedented $50 million contract last summer. The deal came in the wake of the sketch comedy's record-setting first-season DVD sales.

Another acquaintance alluded to the Half-Baked star's partying. "I wouldn't say it's out of control," the purported pal dished to Newsweek, "but at some point that has to affect you if you've got a regular gig." Chappelle's camp has categorically denied he was abusing drugs.

A third suggested in Newsweek that Chappelle had creative differences with Comedy Central over the direction of the show. Chappelle reportedly wanted to push the boundaries of his comedy, with some racially provocative sketches, but the network had resisted.

A source close to the production tells E! that Chappelle had finished nearly five episodes for the new season before going AWOL. The season got off to a bumpy start late last year when Comedy Central announced it was moving back the debut from February to May, saying Chappelle had been unable to stockpile enough scripts due to an illness.

With the show's future suddenly in doubt, Comedy Central and corporate sibling Paramount are hoping to plug the Chappelle gap in the meantime with the release of the second-season DVD collection on May 24.

That's one thing I've always admired about Prince. When given a challenge, he rises to meet it. He gets a record contract at 18; he produces For You. He finishes 1999 and despite not being an actor, makes Purple Rain the Movie AND the album. He is a dynamo who like others, Eddie Murphy, Michael Jordan, Muhammed Ali--in that he is FEARLESS.

The difference between a champion and the rest of us is that champions rise to the occasion and surpass expectations.

Damn. I wish Dave Chappelle well.
