Student Gets Suspended For Using Cellphone in school(NOT WHAT YOU THINK) There was a story on the news a little while ago about this young man who got suspended while using his cellphone in the school cafeteria.
here are the facts: 1)his father and grandparents are deceased and so he lives with his aunt& several cousins who he's never seen so he's having to adjust after being an only child. 2)the person in question on the cellphone was his mother who's in iraq right now. 3)he wasn't in class taking a test or anything:he was in the cafeteria. what is this world coming to? first canines, now this.

Why would it matter whether he was taking a test? Sorry, I'm a little anti-cellphone these days.

Some other facts you left out:
1. After refusing to end the phonecall, he started cussing out the teachers (using "profanity") and being belligerent as he was taken to the principal's office. This is the official reason for the 10-day suspension, NOT because he was on the phone. [Edited 5/6/05 22:58pm]

Well, this is bullshit. Actually, the district where I am working is considering allowing kids to carry cellphones since they have discontinue bussing students. So, you guys figure this mess out. Districts are getting more and more fucked up by the minute.

I just saw this 2day when I logged online. I think it's pretty foul and heartless of the school. That could've been the last time he got 2 speak with his mother. Idiots they r!

not only that....
here's the update: the boy's original suspension was 10 days but after getting numerous phone calls about the atrocity of the schools' rules the principal only gave him 3 days out. can you say "Police State"?

I bloody well hate when people bring cell phones to class and shite. That's just stupid. Not many people are important enough to have to be linked to the damn world 24/7... let alone school children. Insatiable taught me everything I know about balls.

Terrible. The other day a kid was talking on his cell phone while he was supposed to be working on a group project. It was a parent but my cooperating teacher, who doesn't strick me as very harsh, took the phone, started talking to the parent and told them he was in class....and then took the phone until class ended. That should be it...at the most, hold it for the rest of the day. Shit, some kids in 6th hour are listening to the music!

I understand the rules are rules people...(it's a little bit Stepford but OK) but I think it's ridiclious to extend the cell phone thing to lunch....let them have their time! Sounds more like prison than a school....but rules are rules....
