I'll probably buy it because I love Jim Lee's artwork. But I skipped Frank Miller's last Batman work, the Dark Night sequel because the preview art looked awful and the Spawn/Batman crossover was so bad, I got rid of it practically right away. FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

Among them, The Mighty Thor #180, so now I have both of Neal Adams' Thor issues. Isn't that great?! A handful of Warlock by Jim Starlin, so now I only need two more items to have all of his midseventies Marvel work! It's... amazing! A bunch of Master of Kung Fu by Doug Moench & Paul Gulacy, so now I almost have all of their issues! It's lovely! The Uncanny X-Men #125. Now I only need two issues to have all of Claremont and Byrne's run! Daredevil #161. I'm down to only needing #160 to have Frank Miller's entire run! And... Fantastic Four #243. Now I have all John Byrne's FF-issues. I mean ALL! Oh, I love my comics collection. ALL friggin' classics!!! This is my favorite series of the year, so far. I love how Johns is explaining so many of the bizzare elements of the GL mythos (the abrubt change in character for Hal when Adam's took over, the weekness to yellow, Hal becoming Parralax, etc), and how he is freeing it from silly things like Hal becoming the Spectre, without removing these things from continuity. I also love that he isn't doing away with Kyle, John or any of the other GL's while he is at it! Friggin' great! Oh, and I couldn't agree more about Ethan Van Sciver's art. I've been a fan of his for the past decade (ever since his silly Cyberfrog series, which masterfully mocked the Image trend of the early 90s), and I'm glad to see him finally getting his due. He is an INCREDIBLE artist. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

How did I miss this thread? I'm mostly into the X-books, especially Wolverine, but I've branched out into other stuff. Here's a small sampling.

He is an INCREDIBLE artist. Just read the last issue. All in all a very good series. Now I'm looking forward to the new series with art by Carlos Pacheco. From his work on New X-Men, it would appear that Ethan van Sciver is one of those all too many artists who can't keep a monthly schedule, but if he sticks to minis and one-shots with gorgeous art like on Rebirth, then that's fine with me. But there are so many great artists around these days, I've given up on following any specific ones around from title to title. But if they happen to draw a project that I'm interested in because I like the character(s) and want to see what's happening, then that's just dandy. FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

I ain't read the last issue yet, either, but I'm not particularly thrilled with this series. I think the world - and X-Men continuity - could have done very well without it. Well, I've read the last issue now and apparently Jean Grey is resurrected once more. The good thing about Morrison killing her off (again) in New X-Men #150 is that then one could pretend that she had never been resurrected at all. Yep, I'm one of those who were in an uproar when she got resurrected back in Fantastic Four/X-Factor. Because they were saying that it wasn't Jean Grey that died on the moon but an energy being pretending to be her. Now, revealing that Professor X was still alive and it was the Changeling that had died in his stead was fine. Professor X's "death" didn't have a story point that was undermined by this revelation. But the point of the tragic Phoenix saga was the human spirit of Jean Grey conquering at the end. She made a sacrifice. And with the revelation that Jean Grey didn't sacrifice diddley, well, that certainly ruined the classic for me. And it ruined the characer of Scott Summers because he dropped his wife and child to rush back to his childhood sweetheart. Some hero he was. And then, to try and "save" matters, they made a retroactive change (again), this time saying that his wife had been a villain from the start, so it was alright for him to dump her. I kept reading the dang X-books because I love so many of the characters, but I never cared for Jean and Scott again. They horrible characters. Awful! Bad! So I didn't mind Morrison changing the status quo by killing Jean off again and hooking Scott up with Emma. (But I did mind the manner in which it happened because I didn't see the point in making Jean Phoenix again just in time to bite it. Unless of course, they figured she had to be Phoenix at the time of her death in order to resurrect her. ) And now she's been resurrected again in a mini-series that really was quite bad. That one page where Wolverine kills Jean too many times to count... And, I mean, they aren't even kidding with that kinda of crap even though it reads like something right out of Not Brand Echh. And what's with that last page of Emma waking up at night to see Phoenix returning? I didn't get that. FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

I leafed through it at my local comic book store but didn't see any "explicit content" - only Rawhide Kid possibly being interested in the single dad-sheriff. So I didn't buy it. But did he get the sheriff at the end? Was there any kissing? Or is the "explicit content" just their usual excuse for showing gore rather than anything mature? But the covers suggest sex, dammit. SEX! I have this series. There was no nudity, just lots of innuendo. I'm guessing it got a parental advisory sticker because the innuendo was gay. It's a fun read in a Howard Hughes' 'Outlaw' comedy/western-type way.
