I still don't quite get the whole "Bollywood" phenomenon, or why it's even called that.. no, i wouldn't say it was a Bollywood film, really. The Bollywood phenomenon is brilliant! Wonderful films. I love 'em. uhm...they're called Bollywood, i guess, because Bombay + Hollywood = Bollywood.

I still don't quite get the whole "Bollywood" phenomenon, or why it's even called that.. It's called Bollywood because there are many movie coming out of Bombay. It's like a type of Hollywood. I can't believe this thread came up today. Last night I rewound a tape too far and ended up watching THIS movie again. My favorite part is when the women are getting henna on their hands for the wedding and everyone is singing this really cool song.(pic #3) I think it's about choosing a bride. I also love the subplot between the wedding planner and the maid. Very romantic and sweet. "Monsoon Wedding" is class! It has delightful little sub-plots and pressing issues all fused around the growing middle class culture of modern Indian (wedding apart ). Nicely dealt with by Meera Nair. The soundtrack is gorgeous too (if it's your kind of thing. Give it a whirl Mach ). Check out Nair's "Salaam Bombay" if you get the chance "..My work is personal, I'm a working person, I put in work, I work with purpose.."

It's actually called "Bollywood" because the heart beat of 'mainstream' Indian cinema is located in what used to be called Bombay (now Mumbai ) "..My work is personal, I'm a working person, I put in work, I work with purpose.."

since you're familiar with the genre.. could you recommend a film or 2?? something funny &/or.. "sexy"?? they're nearly all funny. particularly like Shahrukh Khan sexy - just hit anything with Aishwarya Rai or Preity Zinta or [loads of others] in it. won't find any sex scenes tho - not even any kissing, normally. loads of great films. Wonderful recent film was called Devdas, starring Rai and Khan. Other films that are easy to get into - Asoka, Lagaan and for just outstanding music, Dil Se

since you're familiar with the genre.. could you recommend a film or 2?? something funny &/or.. "sexy"?? Drop me an Org.Note and I can run you off a huge list of mainstream bangers and independent gems with many different and varying themes (Although there's a lot of 'formula' junk that gets churned out from the mainstream, but it's all fun though! ) The golden oldie to watch is SHOLAY I'd recommend it without doubt for all things classically Bollywood "..My work is personal, I'm a working person, I put in work, I work with purpose.."
