i get this in some places and in some situations, and in other situations and places i feel completely at home and comfortable and liked.

i think part of it has to do with the setting, and part of it has to do with perception.

as for setting, there are certain situations in which you will find that unless you blend in with the masses, you'll be treated as an outsider. and i'm not talking about dressing like other folks and having the same hairstyle as other folks - lemmings can smell an individualist a mile away. the way you carry yourself, the way you speak, the words you use - just your very nature, the things you can't change even if you wanted - if those things come off as unique, some people are just gonna hate you. and it's because you're a reflection on how nondescript they are, and most people don't want to confront that kind of a thing. you just gotta remember, if people treat you like shit because you're an individual, those people aren't worth your time anyway. think of it as a social weeding-out process.

as for perception, i've also learned that sometimes, my own intimidation of a new social situation or being around people who i really want to gel with can kinda bring about an illusion of "they hate me!" when it turns out to be the farthest thing from the truth.

i guess it's all about finding a balance between being unapologetically you, and always making sure that you approach people in a way you'd want to be approached (which SO many people don't know how to do)...i try to keep mindful of how i'm percieving different social settings, and suss out whether i'm in a room full of stale ass, or if i'm just bugging out.
