I am a disabled person. I use a wheelchair.

Last night I was out shopping. As I went through the store enterance, there was a woman walking towards me, She was not looking where she was going. Before I could say anything she stumbled into my wheelchair, almost pushing me over and making herself fall.

After it happened, all I said was "please be careful"
She gave me a dirty look and said "why don't you be careful, I think I twisted my ankle!" She continued, "people in wheelchairs should be more cautious."

I told her that she was the one who walked into me.

She told me, "you should not be allowed in the store because your wheelchair blocks the walkway."

Then she walked away in a huff. I was shocked.

Have you had any similiar experinces?

Gotdamn, the rudeness of people!!!! What the heck, you're not supposed to go into a public place because you use a wheelchair? I'm sorry to hear that that woman was such a bitch to you. She should be a put into a wheelchair for a week to see what it's like. Maybe then she'd have more sympathy for disabled people.

I had a bad experience with a disabled person!




We met online years ago, we met up at six flags for a day of fun.....she NEVER told me she was in a wheelchair.....She tricked me into pushing her around Six Flags in a wheel chair all day!!!!

I couldn't even ride the good rides because she couldn't get on!!!!


Still pissed!

My sister had to use a powered chair and would say excuse me to folks who are in her way going down the store. If they were asses, she would run them down! The worst for her was when folks would hit you in the ankle with grocery cart! She would find the offender and let my nephew drive the cart down the isle they were on. i'm not disabled, but i run into this attitude all the time, and it makes me nuts. a lot of people are such me-monkeys, they don't understand that there's such a thing as right-of-way when you're walking places, and as a result, a lot of folks have this attitude that they have some kind of divine right-of-way in which everyone has to get out of their way at all times and they don't have to yield for other people ever, because - well - they're THEM and you're not!

the worst is getting off elevators and subway trains, and having people rushing in the car as you're trying to get out. i've actually gotten stuck in subway trains and had to get off at the next stop because the people piling into the car wouldn't let anyone off. that kind of shit is why i get claustrophobic - i can't stand large mobs of people like that, and since that incident (and some other, far worse incidents), i have absolutely no problem going all fists and elbows to get where i need to go.

people can be really hideous sometimes.

Not at all had an experience ...as such...but I feel a need to apologize for her...and her ignorance...I agree with Psych...one week of working to meet the challenges of being in wheelchair should set her a** straight.
I guess mean/rude/ignorant/thoughtless people do not care who their "wrath" is unleashed on...they just unleash it...all of us have been in that position.

Keep your head up and keep moving....folks like her...well they get theirs!

Speaking of people in wheelchairs, a good friend of mine's mother had multiple sclerosis. My friend used to care for her mom while she was alive. One day my friend took her mom to the mall to go shopping, and some asshole parked in the handicapped spot, so my friend had to park somewhere else. My friend got pissed and told the asshole off. I don't know what she said, but she said that someone was walking by as she was yelling at the asshole, and the person walking by gave her a thumbsup. So my friend must have really put that asshole in their place.

I've had men yell at me and threaten me in grocery stores....
I've been called mean names by others as well, for no reason.

I walked past a group of guys while they were on their break outside smoking at a grocery store.. They said as i walked by "look at this faggot" and they laughed.
I went into the store to speak to the manager and he was like "what do you expect me to do?"

Anyways, it's a cruel world.
