IM TORN..... MY FIRST EVER 2 TOPIC'S AT ONCE THREAD.... FIRST... i came back from the kids school this afternoon, which was GREAT - i'll tell you about that in a minute... but, when i got home, i needed to take the pups out for a walk. got them out, got their leashes on, and we headed out to take care of business.... while im standing out there praising them for their good deeds, a FUCKING PIT BULL comes out from the front of the complex in front of us !!! now, here i am, standing all alone, with two small, but INCREDIBLY strong dogs on rather long leashes, and a pit bull running up to me SECOND TOPIC..... the BUG awards.... this is a MUCH happier story !!! so, i go to the school, first i sat with my daughter for her lunch time, she thought that was pretty cool when he saw me, he put his arm out, as if to 'escort' me to the lunch room turns out, my son didnt get a BUG award.... instead, he was called at the end for the straight A's award. they did this for all of the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders all together. you know what ?? do you know how many straight A students they have there ???? they have 4 ! just 4 straight A kids.. and MY BABY was one of them heres where the magic comes in... when the called his name, of course, i was so proud, and my lil heart kinda skipped a beat he gave me a HUGE hug and a BIG kiss !!!!! and said THANK YOU MOMMA SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP AND I LOVE YOU SO MUCH so, now, im a mix of proud as can be... sad... yet, excited about the future and everything it holds.. and PISSED OFF at my neighbor - and im bleeding somebody pass me a tissue.... well, maybe 2... thanks - NPP One of the best days of my life... http://prince.org/msg/100/291111

What a wonderful woman you are.
- as far as the leash thing be carefull of the type of leash, the retractable ones have been known to amputate in extreme conditions. Why do people always assume leash laws do not aply to their wonderful dog, the minute they think that you know theyre dog will be a problem. :OjitheFanKeybumpersticker:

Document your run in witgh your neighbor. I wouldn't get her in trouble...but do document it somehow. Also find out if she does this often.
I am coming from a city (san fran) that had that case with the Dog Mauling killing a Partner of this woman. The out come is not important, but these dogs were not on leashes and their owner had a hard time controlling them. They all lived in a complex too. Luckily in the case there had been other reprts of issues with these dogs which helped. But the initial things said were that the person provoked the attack and that this was the first time they had ever done this...stunning it's owner even because of the "surprise" attack. It came out later that this wasn't the first time the dogs were unruly. So it was ruled that the owners KNEW that their dogs were dangerous and still did nothing. Much of the testamony was hinged on this "knowing". Document it somehow...bookmark this page..tell a neighbor or something. Christian Zombie Vampires

hm..
with the "confrontational canine conundrum".. if I were in that situation, I believe that I would have "erred on the side of caution" & informed the police 1st, then maybe inform the neighbor that I advised the police of her dog (I would do this if I thought she would react in a mature & responsible manner). if the property rules clearly state that no such dogs are allowed, that's it. those are the rules. you did not make them nor are you there to "enforce" then. you are only.. "involved" in this to the extent that this situation could have implications for the safety & health of you & your children & your pets. this woman with the pit bull, it's VERY DIFFICULT to imagine that she was unaware of this rule before moving in. if she knew about it & came with or bought the dog anyway, then she is clearly flouting the rules of the property & I imagine she could be setting herself up to be expelled from the property, minimally. in my opinion, you were really nice to this woman & you did her a favor. okay, she's the mother of 1 of your son's friends but that has virtually nothing to do with the potential threat represented by this pit bull. me in this situation - if I had not called the police to inform them of this, then I would have then insisted that this woman to call me EVERY DAY to let me know when she plans to (or when she has just) take(n) out her dog, then I would take my dogs out when I knew she wouldn't be out there.. if my kid(s) still walked the dogs, I'd go with them- every time. I would not - at all - want to risk the safety & health of myself, my children or my dogs. she was able to control her dog this time - but what about the next time??? or what if someone else walks her dog next time??? I'm not writing this to "scare" you nakedpiano, but it IS important to realize that with animals- especially pit bulls - anything can happen. again- me personally, I would rather be too cautious than to- well.. you know. then to close this post (as you did your initial thread here) on a MUCH LIGHTER note.. ah.. I can see how you're "torn" between the special joy of the moment & the realization that moments like these (at least with your son as a child) will be fewer & fewer.. but I think that's all the more reason to appreciate this moment right now, appreciate it exactly for the very special moment it is. 10 or 20 or 30 years from now, you'll look back on this day & have a BIG smile on your face & a warm feeling in your heart. I'm sure your son will too. I'll see you tonight..

As far as your neighbor goes, a full grown pit is not going to be controlled by any leash if it decides to act a fool. If it had a leash on, she couldn't control it! That is why she didn't go get it. She wouldn't have been able to pick it up and physically stop it anyway. We have laws about pitbulls for a reason especially in complexes.
On to ur second topic! It is so sweet and a lil scary when we begin to see them grow and slip away into their social lives. We sometimes get forgotten. It is a good feeling when they remember. My son is 5 and will be 6 in a month. (just got done with the invitations). A recent moment was when he walked up to me while I was doing laundry and asked, " Can I have a friend from school come over and play with me?". It was his first friend that he ever mentioned coming over. I said it was ok but I have to meet this kid's mom and stuff to see if it is ok. He pulled ou this piece of paper that he said had his friends phone number on it. I tried not to bust out laughing but it was missing three numbers! Bless his heart! Shake....shake, shake, shake.
