SO THE UNIVERSE IS VIBRATING STRINGS IN THE TENTH DIMENSION so everything in the universe is made up of tiny vibrating strings(unbelievably tiny) which are in the tenth dimension(which is curled up in an unbelievably small ball) ....cool ....so the universe is like a giant orchestral symphony....even better...

That's what thier sayin'
Of course, I heard string theory can't be proven or disproven with any types of instruments--so it has to be debating off of theories alone??

yup.
your dumps and the most beautiful face in the world are both made up of tiny vibrating strings. which makes me look at both as being the same thing.

I knew that! | |

i'm not a big fan of string theory but i think there are potentially an infinite number of dimensions

What is the string made up of?

Beef. So basically the universe is made up of beef jerky?

Essentially. Tuck in and enjoy.

Length x Width x Depth in the Future
Length x Width x Depth in the Present Length x Width x Depth in the Past And the Dimention of Time that connects them all together = 10 dimensions. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Can someone expound upon this theory here for those of us too lazy to find out about it?

I've always considered the universe to be made up of dependent processes rather than a place full of 'things'. Nothing has independent inherent existence, or essence, and everything has conventional dependent existence.
I figure that just by way of how particles must react with each other with every movement or action that by way of a knock-on effect that every process must have an effect on every other process, no matter how small. So in theory, if I smirk it will effect you all in some way, however small and unnoticable it may be.

just that at a sub-atomic level, way smaller than can ever be verified by us pathetic humans, everything is literally made up of tiny vibrating strings. the manner in which these strings vibrate results in different appearances and behaviour. For example, your beard and a can of Coke are both made up of billions of tiny vibrating strings. String theory is a so-called "unifying theory", because it's an attempt to bring together quantum theory and the theory of relativity, which are essentially in conflict in certain areas. also, in order for string theory to be correct, incredibly complicated mathematics and boring fusty old professors have shown that there would need to be far more dimensions in the known universe than are apparent to us. Many of these dimensions are inconceivably small. that's off the top of my head, so doubt it'll make much sense, but it's a very, very simple summary i guess.

If I run full pelt at a wall, quantum theory says that what happens is a series of probabilities; a probability curve, in which the greatest possibility is that i injure myself terribly and look a total bell-end, but a tiny possibility is that i manage to pass straight through the wall. that's not quite accurate, but it's a simple way of putting it.

i wandered off on a tangent, there. the reason why quantum theory has an effect on what you're saying, about the effect which any person's actions have, is that any person's actions are really a series of possibilities until observed, rather than just a single definitive event which occurs.

Moderator | Woot for string theory! In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

No, but it's a very loose term only aplicable to perspective of the terminology's fleeting slippy feet. Man, this brings back memories, discussing chaos theory and string theory and Nikoli Tesla in general discussion. I welcome pretention and smartassedness in all its forms.
