I'm not a Nazi or anything but you have to admire the mans leadership skills! I don't appreciate what he did to all those innocent people, but never before in history, or never again will one man be able to conquer so much. I don't see what's wrong with wanting to be a good leader. You blow things out of proportion. rolleyes

I don't think there is anyone here who would disagree that calling Hitler your hero is incredibly offensive. Would you do the same with someone who was responsible for hate-crimes against gays, African-Americans, etc.? Would you call them a "hero"?

Need I reiterate that that is not why I view him as a hero? I said I admired his leadership skills as a public officer, not any of the horrible deaths he caused or the other hate crimes. I admire him for his accomplishments as a leader, and his ability to be able to conquer much of Europe.

you're screwed no one is going to like you after this...I don't blame them because Hitler wasn't a good leader...If you pay attention in social studies he manipulated the government to take power into his own hands...How is that a good leader? He wanted sole control and wanted the entire world under his power...he was a sick evil little man.

Who doesn't manipulate the government? That's another reason to like him. In the real world, you basically have to be good at manipulating to get to the top in many powerful organizations. If you are good at that, then you're pretty much set for life.

I don't care if everyone will hate me; I'm used to it because I have different opinions and people are too closeminded and biased to accept what other people think.

Why is it so strange or bad to find Adolf Hitler as a heroic figure, or inspiring?

Sure, I know what he did was horrible, but when it comes right down to it, he was one of, if not the most powerful man in history. No one has ever controlled or conquered as much as he has, regardless of his sins.

And, in reality, he only actually killed one person himself.

And that was, himself.

Actually that shows he was a coward for two reasons. One, he couldn't kill anyone so he let others do it for him and two, he failed to take responsibility for his actions. I'd also like to add that he did his "people" more harm than good. The "success" was short lived. You really need to pay more attention in history class.

But if you want to have a man who approved of new born babies to be smashed against the wall (amoungst many other things) as your hero that's your right, just don't make up all these bullshit reasons why you admire him. He had certain qualities, no doubt, but he misused them which makes him unadmireable to most people (as it should).

PS: The Third Reich was not the greatest empire either.

Its not about being close minded and not accepting anyone elses opinions. Its about seeing all the evil things he has done and by saying he was a good leader its saying what he did was acceptable and it wasnt at all. There are plenty of leaders who did a lot more than what he did.

I've always dreamed of being a powerful leader, and being able to control and possibly kill a lot of people. A lot of people, infact all of you will disagree/ not understand that, but I've been through Hell and back at school and at home for the past 7 years, as well as a mixture of manic-depression and borderline personality disorder have all attributed to this. Maybe I'm messed up, maybe I'm crazy, but I know what I want to be, I can't help it. You guys obviously can't respect my opinions, wishes, and convinctions, as I have done with you, and I don't understand why. Not everyone in the world wants to be a fireman or a police man or an actor when they grow up, so I'm sorry for any offense I have caused anyone, but that is my story, so, go ahead and flame me. I can take it. I've taken it in real life, so I can on the internet too.

You know what just because you have a long "Sob story" about your child hood doesnt mean that you have to take out your angers on everyone else. There are plenty of people out there suffering a hell lot more than you. And dont come and tell me "oh you don't know I've suffered a lot". You are 14...you have an entire life in front of you...and a whole hell lot more to face in this world. This world isn't made to be fair and we all have to learn how to deal with problems. I myself have been through a lot...and I'm sure every other person on this thread has suffered many things. And many of us are depressed and suffer many different crazy imbalances because of what we have been through. But that only makes us stronger and if you truly think that by killing people whether they are innocent or not! is going to make you feel better and make all these disorders of your go away you are sadly mistaken and you need a reality check. People now adays dont care what you've been through...its survival of the fittest..which im oh so sure you have learned in high school. I'm not saying you should be like everyone else and I'm not saying that what you have been through doesnt mean anything, but what bothers me is that people make stupid comments like that and if you think a good leader is by killing people well that just makes you another imitation.

But I'm going to go to the park right now. I have to think about things. I've been in Paris. nod To fully appreciate The Stranger, you should also read The Myth of Sisyphus, which is a non-fiction philosophical essay written at roughly the same time as The Stranger and closely parallels the themes contained in the novel. The Stranger is, in a nut shell, a fictional representation of man's struggle to recognize and live authentically in the face of an absurd human condition.

He injected some much-needed humour as well as refreshing critical thinking into an era of stagnating intellectual thought. Some might call him a simple provocateur, but I think he had more to offer than that.

The greatest hero in this picture is of course de Beauvoir for, perhaps more than any other person on Earth, contributing to the recognition of women as human beings of equal value to men. But Sartre is also a hero. His theories have liberated many people and helped us look at our lives in new ways.
