Sure, why not? He's old enough, right? What's the big deal between piercing just one or both? If you're totally against it, perhaps he can remove them when he's around you?

I guess I see it as letting him be "him".

Sorry, but I'm in line with the "what's the big deal?" folks. It's just jewelry. Does he pick out his own clothes? I don't see why this is so different.
My father threatened to kick me out of the house when I pierced my nose when I was 17. And I'll never forget it. I was a good kid, honor student, never got in any trouble, I even worked part time and paid for most of my own clothes and CDs and things from about 16 years old on. I never understood what the big deal was. Still don't. Of course, when I moved out a few months later, I just re-pierced it. shrug I think for him it was more of an "I'm showing you who's boss" kinda thing. Silly, silly, silly.

I agree with Shyslantedeye as far as him living in your home and if you don't like it then he should abide by your wishes.

Now in my home.... I cannot stand gender-specific anthing. It's a tradition in our family to pierce the children's ears early on. If I wanted to follow that tradition I would pierce my male and female children's ears and they can decide later if they want them. I also have a pet peeve with gender specific colors. Although I don't like pink, why can't children wear it. I mean if you really think about it, it's pretty dumb,

Petra, you seem like an awesome mother. You are not a bad person if you say no to your child.

love ya,
Miguel

He asked permission, which was very respectful!

I'd tell him go for it. What harm is it gonna do.

I mean how can I be a hypocrite, both of my ears are pierced.
