Why do you ask? If I were to say that I am American, would you say that my being American is why I view breastfeeding in the way that I do?

Non American's aren't hysterical about breasts. You're probably American.

What country had a nervous breakdown over a 1 second flash of a woman's breast? Name every country on the planet and you will be wrong.....with exception of one country. Take a guess which one it was?

True story.....

My aunt always had a lot of riff raff hanging round the house. She'd let anyone sleep there if they paid her money. Well one of my cousins friends was a drug addicted high school dropout and was crashing for a few days. I came home to his ravings one day. He was in the kitchen yelling and screaming how there was never any food in the house "There is never any milk in this goddamned house!!" pissed

With that he grabbed a cat who had just had kittens and held her up, raving "this is the only way to get any milk in this fucking house" and he lifted the cat to his mouth and started sucking on her teets! omg

I'm surprised he came away with his eyes intact because that cat was normally very vicious biggrin I didn't see any dribblings, besides he only suckled a few times before throwing her across the room. And people would wonder why she was so vicious mad

I am asking because you were calling into question my generalization that American's have a problem with certain things like breastfeeding. I am only curious to put your doubts about my statement into context.

And to answer your question, yes I do think that being American would influence you opinion on this matter.

This is not an absolute. I am not saying that all American's have this trait but something in their belief system predisposes them to this opinion.

Problem is some people are offended by breast-feeding.

then thats their problem , not mine...or my childs...i fed him wherever we were whenever. too bad for those who weren't pleased about it. breasts are there for feeding children. period. that is their purpose.

What irritates me is the attitude that mothers should be able to breast-feed wherever they want because it's `natural`, or `it's their baby and it's hungry`.

it irritates you that a good mother feeds their child when its hungry??? confuse it IS natural...it IS normal

There are alterantives to going into a public place where people are eating and doing something that some people may find offensive.

what?? stay in your house like a recluse until your child is weaned??? thats just ridiculous. some people (those who are offended) just need to grow up and stop looking at the breast as a sexual object and instead regard it as it was intended. my son REFUSED to take a bottle....there was no way in hell i was going to hide at home like a hermit. its beautiful, natural and the best thing for your child. i was discreet and 99% of the time noone had a clue what i was doing when feeding my son. a funny story actually...i was in the food court nursing my son and an elderly lady was seated beside me. she said "awww...is the baby sleeping" and looked under the receiving blanket....i said "no, he's eating" but by then it was too late, she had already looked. neither of us were embarressed but she kept saying she was sorry over and over and over again.

Never hide or be ashamed of something so beautiful because of another persons personal issues.

They are the one who has to find out why they have issues with breasts in general and breastfeeding in specific.

I never said I had a problem with breast feeding. I said some people do.

I do have a dis-like of your attitude which seems to be that anyone offended can go and fuck themselves, it's "me and my baby".

It's very in-considerate.

Normally I agree that people with that kind of attitude can fuck themselves but people need seriously to get over their issues with the breast. Women should not have to hide or seclude themselves. It's a different thing if a woman rips off her top and latches her kid on in public but must women are discreet and even if you see a flash of boob, the baby is eating. How can anyone have a problem with a child being fed? It's bizarre that people have an issue with this.

its inconsiderate to feed a defenseless, hungry baby?? i do not think its proper to 'hang' all out to feed my child. however i also do not think its right to tell someone they have to feed their baby in the bathroom or to leave. if someone finds it offensive then it is their problem...they can leave.

and yes...as you so eloquently put it...those offended CAN go fuck themselves. it IS me and my baby...and anyone who is a parent can relate...there is nothing more important in my life than my child. and honestly i don't give a shit whether you 'like' my attitude or not. you are entitled to your opinion...i just think it is a pretty ignorant one.

I don't think it's a bad thing at all. That being said...I was at my Aunt's house one day with my homie. We were down in Louisiana from California for Mardi Gras. Well...my cousin had just had her baby. I was out on the patio smoking a ciggarette and came inside to look in the fridge for summin to drink. My homie was in the living room watching TV...where my cousin was at. While lookin' in the fridge...I heard this weird buzzing noise coming from the living room. I was wondering what it was and kinda lookin around for the source of the sound. Well I turned the corner and there my cousin was with a breast pump suckin titty juice out. I was like OMG! and turned around and went immediatly back outside to smoke another ciggarette, due to lack of anything else to do. Like a minute later...my homie comes out saying. "DUDE!...I didn't even know what she was up to!" Which is a tad understandable cuz we were both hung over from the night before and we were both stoned as well have smoked a cpl of joints earlier. To help with the hangover...of course...

I don't want to see it while I'm eating anything!!! I don't see why they can't just do it in the restroom or something, or some place a little more private. It's not like it's disgusting or anything, I just don't think you need to throw it in everyone's faces. Just my opinion.

simply look the other way! it's a damn sight better than a screaming baby, that's for sure - now THAT will put you off your dinner! And just so you know, the correct thing for you is to smile (if the mum sees you looking) and politely go back to minding your own business! biggrin

Please don't tell me what the "correct" thing to do is. If I see it I'm not going to smile simply because I don't like it! Again, this is my opinion if you don't like it simply smile and look away!
