It is not for everyone I agree, and took some skill too It reminded me of being a new breastfeeding mother in the mall one day. I didn't have anywhere else to feed my daughter and she was very hungry and crying. I found a quiet corner which I thought was appropriate and way out of the way of normal flow of traffic. I was mostly covered by a tree or plant and had a blanket over me and the baby. A security guard came up to me and told me I couldn't do that here....and I was pissed. I asked him where he would like me to do it, and he said, "how about the bathroom?" I said, "how would you like to eat your lunch in the toliet?" He threw me out. I left. I was soooo pissed. We are the ones with the issues, and we should let mothers be mothers where ever the need arises. Please also know that there are added benefits to the mother who breastfeeds such as faster weight loss after pregnancy, and it has been found to help prevent types of cancer for you and your child.
[Edited 4/22/05 14:36pm] @ your response to the security guard. I've heard that you lose weight faster if you breastfeed your child, and preventing cancer is another nice plus. It is! And with my first child I gainned a ton! (50lbs to be exact) I was a whale! (with the others I had learned my lesson and learned to eat healthy while pregnant and not look at it as an excuse to eat) I lost all of that weight in 2 months just breastfeeding and eating healthy and getting enough exercise "Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures." - Henry Ward Beecher

I totally agree that if u don't like it don't look. But honestly there are some women who have given breastfeeding in public a bad name by not giving a damn what anyone thinks and flopping it out there like everyone is ok with it. Thinking that everyone should be ok with it is one thing but flopping your boob out in public without any thought to your surroundings is not ok. Being discreet does not mean u are of ashamed of feeding your baby. It is just as respectful to those around u as them turning and looking the other way. I did not breasfeed my son because I did not want to. I also knew that he was not going to die because I gave him formula. I may breastfeed my next child and if I do I will not go to a bathroom stall. If he won't take a nipple I will politely cover myself and feed him so that u can politely look away.

Hi NPP You've made some good points. The thought of seeing someone's boob popping out of their shirt is what makes me so uneasy about breastfeeding. Guess I'm best off just to look the other way. I'm not a newbie, just an orger with a second account.

It was Liar Liar and he is in an elevator with some chick and since he cannot lie he burst out with, "MaMa" and started making sucking noises. In the outtakes he looks at her and says," I wanna bounce those things like Sugar Ray Leonard!" Funny! Wait... Now that I read ur statement over I may be wrong. Totally agree, only Americans would think that hiding that humans lactate and that babies feed on milk from the mother would be showing "respect" for others.
Yes whatever you do hide them filthy, filthy, ugly, dirty, filthy breasts from our eyes before it corrupts our youth. Before you know it children will grow up not being ashamed of their bodies and having a greater understanding and tolerance of the amazing things our bodies can do. But we wouldn't want that, lets teach them that breast feeding is shameful and should be hidden. We need to keep them as embarrased and ashamed of their bodies as possible so we can sell them teeth whitener, hair dye, push up bras and bucket loads of makeup. What a fucked up way of looking at things. Welcome to the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Isn't that a stereotype? How do you know I'm non-American, but I have these opposing views to breastfeeding for my own personal reasons? I'm not upset, just wondering and trying to understand why you feel the way you do, and how you come to the conclusion that only Americans feel this way.. PaisleyLace said: AnotherLoverToo said: You're American and you're agreeing with her stereotypical statement? Yes, I'm American and have traveled a fair amount in other countries. Plus, I work with a large refugee population of pregnant women, so I've seen firsthand some of the cultural differences in parenting/attitude. Yes, it's a stereotypical comment--I and many other Americans obviously don't think/feel the way roanmairin states--but it's unfortunately true to a large degree. Our country promotes consumerism like no other, and a huge marketing strategy is to make people feel as if they aren't good enough. I think making people feel ashamed of their bodies also plays into this.
