I must say, this guy looks the part, and so far seems to be filling those big boots. Agreed. I think he shoulda put on a little more muscle for the part, but I'm being nitpicky. Having said that, and knowing that I am a traditionalist when it comes to these beloved characters, here is what I do not like about it:
1. The red is awfully dark, what's up with that? I guess its to make it look less flashy, but there is no way to do Supe's outfit and NOT make it look flashy (at least, if you plan on doing it RIGHT!!!). 2.The "S" is really tiny. It makes him look wimpy... that symbol should spread across his whole chest.
DAMNED straight! I like the raised texture of it, but if you're gonna go to that kinda trouble, then make that sucker really pop out! That should really be bold. 3. Why is there an "S" on his belt? Not nescessary. **
I'm half & half on this one. I don't like the idea of it, but it is interesting visually. I'll reserve judgement on this until I see it on the big screen. Hard to say if it will be a distraction or an interesting detail 4.The boots look odd to me.
I think its, once again, that weird red color. Its just too dark for Superman. Superman should, visually, be the polar opposite of Batman. His costume should be bright and bold, with primary colors that aren't toned down at all. ** With trying to make these guys as realistic as possible, I do not think any one of them would market themselves, and display their logo on everything. It's just tacky.
Just another reason I never liked the old Batman movies... that logo was put on everything in the movie. It only needed to be in one place... over his chest. Yes, sell t-shirts, hats, magazines, posters... whatever you want with Superman, and Batman sheilds... but they wouldn't put it on everything in real life. You make a very good point here. Do these heroes really need their logo everywhere? It kinda worked with X-Men, because it wasn't a true logo, so much as it was everything had subtle "X"s worked into them. With Batman and Superman, they have very distinct logos, and they don't really need to be everywhere (especially multiple times on their costumes). Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Bart Simpson: "I didn't think it was physically possible, but this both sucks and blows." The whole thing is starting to look like Lois and Clark.... Well, considering he looks so much like Reeve, I don't agree at all. I honestly see no comparison in the designs of this film to L&C at all (other than they both were based on the Superman mythos). So far, this is far closer to Donner's original Superman. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. Well, actually, pretty much EVERY other interp of Supes is better than L&C. All that show had going for was Terri Hatcher. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

I don't like. The actor is too thin, the costume is far too dark, i hate the revamped 'S' and the belt.
Two thumbs down from me. I'm a big Supes fan, and i know what i like. Sadly this isn't it.

Ummm, I kinda doubt it, considering that people will be bringing their children to see this flick! Guess you'll have to settle for seeing him in the skintight outfit. And before you even ask, no! He's the original incarnation of the modern superhero. The first of the mythic archetypes in this form. The character was groundbreaking, make no mistake. Sure, there are more interesting characters around nowadays, but the fact that he has endured so long as an international icon should tell you something. Obviously, the character strikes a chord with people. You may feel he "sux", but the character has an appeal that is almost universal. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Well, a lot of people feel the same way about Captain America, Wonder Woman, and many others too. Relics from the Stone Age. The way DC trieds to hype Superman likes he's still important...I nod my head and say no, it just ain't so. Truth is, the fact that he and those other dinosaurs that have resisted modernization still live is an embarassment and they serve to lower the standards and general reputation of the industry. [Edited 4/27/05 6:48am] I disagree strongly. First off, all of the characters you've mentioned have been "modernized", with the exception of their costumes. Superman, in particular, was revamped after the "Crisis On Infinite Earths" series that rebooted DC continuity. John Byrne's legendary "Man Of Steel" mini-series redefined him in modern terms, powering him down a bit, and updating his character to be far more than the simplistic boy scout he'd previously been depicted as. As for your assertation that they are an "embarassment", well, again, I have to site that there are very few people on the planet who wouldn't be able to recognize the character. His design was certainly the prototype for all that came after. Captain America, Batman and Wonder Woman have all endured along with Supes because the nature of these characters is easily indentifiable by people in all walks of life. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Purely from a stylistic standpoint, I think whoever designed those horrible boots should be hanged, drawn and quartered...

Personally, I've always thought they should wait a few more years, and then send the Smallville cast into movies. It would be great, since you already have established characters with lots of history. Welling would make a great Superman.
