a letter came home

from school with my nine year old. They said they wanted to end rumors about what happenmed this week. A boy left school property, he had mentioned that he was going home to get his parents gun to kill a teacher and some students. the school says they do not know if that was a real plan or just something he said, but they have the police involved, investigating it.

We got this letter days later, something I would have wanted a call and the option of picking my son up when it happened.

Where I live is not only low crime, my town comes close to no crime. But everybody hunts, and some of the famillys see any infrigment (like lock your fucking gun up when you arn't using it) as messing with their way of life.

Don't know what I want to do, but at least this coming week is vacation for him.

Good lord... sigh...although I can't really blame the school for not wanting to cause an unnecessary panic by calling up every parent and basically saying "There may or may not be a shooting at the school today...you may want to pick up your kid, though, just to be safe"... confused

I don't recall this train of thought of getting a gun to shoot teachers and students being the norm among my classmates when I was 10-12 years old... sad

I know, I can't think of a time all thru school where I heard anyone wish death on anyone else, plenty of "I'll kick your ass" type stuff, and plenty of actual fights, but not death.

i never heard it much when in school myself ...

i dont know if there is a right or wrong way for schools to handle this... it seems to be a very common threat now a days though

it's very sad and very scary

When a kid in your country makes such a stupid threat that you actually have to worry because of your shitty gun laws. That's the ridiculousness of it all.
When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

Which is what is so intensely frustrating and frightening when dealing with people who feel the absolute right to bear arms. People like me will advocate some responsibility, i.e. lock up your fuckin gun when you aren't using it, and that is met with "liberal commie" or other ridiculous crap.

I don't understand why people feel that the general public should have weapons more powerful than the police. Military style weapons do not belong in the hands of John Does. Anyway, you are in a hell of a dilemna. I can see the school not wanting to cause a panic but damn, that's your kid and you should have the right to protect them.

Imagine a strict interpratation of the constitution, that anyone can have a black powder rifle, no questions asked, but nothing else.

hug all i can say is.... hug

there are few words that will help in this situation, and i know that sending my babies back to school that next day was one of the hardest days we've had.... i was strong for them, and didnt show my fear, though inside i imagined the worst and the thought of some MONSTER hurting one of my babies was enough to bring a tear to my eye.

stay informed, i know when i talked to the police it did make me feel better nod i talked to the teachers, i talked to the principal, i talked to anyone that knew anything at all shrug over protective ???? maybe.. but, its worth it.

best wishes to you and your family rose org note if you wanna talk heart

Only one kid I have in that school now. He is nine, The article said one of the boys involved was nine, that is staggering to me. My wife plans to start writing some letters, it is unbeleivable that the school waited four days while they conducted their own investigation before they informed the police.
