Wrong!
You need to start becoming aware of your patterns; your tendencies to choose the wrong people to be kind and giving to. Most likely, you're picking friends/lovers who take advantage of you because on a subconscious level they remind you of someone from your family of origin. And because you grew up with these sort of people, this feels normal, comfortable and familiar to you--as much as it also frustrates and pisses you off. So, the answer is not to be a totally selfish asshole for the rest of your life to every single person you meet. The answer is to be more selective of the type of person you let get close to you, to make healthier choices. There are lots of people out there who love reciprocating, who do very kind things and are deserving of our generosity.
