Yesterday I stood on US soil for a few hours!! It felt so good!! It was Heaven being around American people and also dealing with people who knew their jobs and what they were doing!!

The US Embassy is truly one of the most impressive buildings in London, especially when u look up and see that huge majestic American Eagle over one of the entrances!!! biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin

Complicated but I'll make it uick for now (work calls)

I was born in chicago and grew up in the city there untill about 9 years old then moved to UK. No one would believe I was American and it doesn't matter anyway.

My parents though are both english as is my older sis' and brother. BUT we had relatives in chicago so we moved there for about 11 years I guess? The relatives are still there. My uncle in chicago does not talk to my dad anymore though.

The rest of my family are english. My uncle, despite living in chicago is english too. Iam technically the only americna in the family.

You've obviously never seen enough of London then (but then again you live in Bournemouth and can't be arsed to go to the beach) or is this just another stab in the back for the UK.

Were still waiting for your reply on the Election thread, oh don't tell me, you don't know what to say..no gut reactions as usual..shame on you.

You are so polite, why can't you simply ask "oh would you care to explain in more detail please" instead of this mock dominatrix tone!

You are just so rude!

I'm sure they're looking for a loophole in the laws now. I heard the CIA are concentrating harder on keeping you out of the country than on finding UBL. I don't blame them.

Yeah I need no job permits or whatever either. Iam not sure about my family? But I see no future in "the land of the free". Going back to chicago inner city and see my old apartment might be cool. But that was a looooong time ago now.

There is more future in the USA, than there is here in the UK!!

I met an American guy at the US Embassy yesterday and he said we are doing the best thing by returning back!! He could see that this country is going down the shitpan and he said that the economy in the USA is growing by leaps and bounds now after 9/11!! This country is still whimpering because of it!! lol lol lol

When my son leaves College here, what is gonna greet him when he leaves??? NOTHING!!! And also, because he has special needs, he will b shoved 2 the back burner and over here its still a case of "out of sight, out of mind" regarding special needs people!!!

Specal needs people I thought got treated well over here (well better then most countries?). But I don't know much about that really. But at the supermarket jobs I've had, they have to employ special needs people and Iam sure other companies have policys too.

I admit i was only a kid whilst in america so I dont remember too much, but I love england. In Norwich though, the population is very white. Not many ethnicities. But that is changing though. It was just wierd to see so many wite people in a city neutral

Also my husband is being discriminated against here, because of his age and also because hes a diabetic!! My husband is 51 now and last year when he turned 50 the phone suddenly stopped ringing!! He was no longer considered for contracts by the agencies and overlooked in favour of someone much younger(in one case by someone aged 18 who was less qualified but who could b paid less!!). This practise would never happen in the USA as therre are very strict Federal Laws 2 protect employees in discrimination cases!!

The thing is, the same thing happened 2 my dad when he reach 50, and that was 22 years ago!! He was a senior architect/draughtsman and he used 2 handle lucrative contracts, but as soon as he reached 50, his phone stopped ringing!!! This country will never change!! nod nod

I love America.

But I have to disagree (surprise, surprise) with you Gold. The American Embassy in London is a horrible building. I think it's utterly revolting in its architecture.

It's one of the least impressive buildings in the country, if not the world.

Grrr.

Children and adults with learning difficulties are treated wonderfully in this country, and given enormous amounts of care and attention. I'm surprised you feel that way, because this country is very generous.

And i would know, before you make a comment about me not being qualified to comment. I'm sorry you have had what you deem to be a bad experience, and hope you find whatever it is you are looking for in terms of care elsewhere.

My husband worked for a candy(sweet) packing plant here temporarily and there was a guy who worked there who had the same special needs as my son(He has ADHD and slight Asperges Syndrome) and all this guy was doing was washing large trays in a back room somewhere!! I know that our son is worth more than just being shoved in a back room somewhere doing mindless work!!!

The future is what you make it you stupid woman, sitting around on your computer all day spouting venon is hardly what I would call a future.

I am so pleased you are encouraging your son in his life, what it must be like to have a mother as bitter as you, no wonder he has special needs...a loving mother who is encouraging and positive for him..too much to ask isn't it.

Well, i don't doubt the truth of what you are saying, but you shouldn't take this as being indicative of a general trend, because it isn't.

People with Asperges Syndrome may wash trays in a back room - many people without Asperges will be washing trays in back rooms too.

If you think that people look at the syndrome and think, "another one for washing trays", then fortunately you're wrong.

Honestly. hug

My son has special needs because of the stupid fucked up NHS!! They didnt bother 2 do the job they are paid for and run tests 2 find out whether I could give birth normally or not!! Me and my baby almost died in the delivery room thanks 2 them!!! One of the causes of ADHD is a traumatic birth and that was caused cos they didnt bother 2 check 2 see if I could give birth normally or had 2 have a C-Section!! In the end I had 2 have an emergency Cesearean when it was almost 2 late!!

If this was the USA, I could have sued the NHS for millions and won!!!

In the USA, they do extensive tests on pregnant women 2 find out if they can give birth by normal means or through C-Sections!! Here they dont do shit!!!

Asparagus syndome? Or "Asperger's." wink

I thought people with Asperger's hung out in their University Physics Department offices, or started companies like Microsoft.

I have a nephew with a touch of this, and he's a semi-anti-social Jr. math genius.

Yeah, excuse the spelling. wink

Not all are so lucky, unfortunately. I have taught several and have a cousin with the syndrome and, bless them all, but i can't see them starting multi-national corporations.

Though all have wonderful talents in other areas.
