mom sold daughter for car (no seriously)

Police in Florida say a woman has two daughters -- one she tried to force into prostitution, and the other she traded for a car.

The woman's now in custody, charged with aggravated child abuse and sexual performance by a child. Both the 12- and 14-year-old girls are in state custody.

Police in Okeechobee County say the woman and her younger daughter were living out of their car, trading sex for food and showers. They say the girl is three months pregnant.

The older daughter refused to become a prostitute -- so a detective says she was traded for a Mercury Cougar.

It's so nice to know that nothing bad happens when unwanted kids or kids who cannot or will not be cared for are born. Let's force more births so we can have more whores touched

If the only women wanting abortions where the ones like this sad soul, there may be far less opposition in society...of course, the ironic thing is that she probably did have the option to have an abortion, but chose not to for whatever reasons. The legality and availability of abortion most likely played no role in this...only her own warped perception on life, the human soul, and the value of both.

Too bad she didn't have the wherewithall to put her children up for adoption instead...

Hmmmmm....so somehow this is society's fault that the woman sold one kid into prostitution and the other one for a car? What about PERSONAL responsibility? wacky I sure wish I could blame all my negative actions on something else - life would be so easy then. nod

But indeed that is the point...there are just as many "success" stories of people who started off in similar circumstances that these two young girls did, born into families or to mothers that were ill-equipped to care for them, yet who go on to become artists, scientists, politicians, activists, etc...people who have made life far more richer and more advanced because as a whole, society didn't deem being "unwanted" or uncared for as reason enough to encourage them not being born. As sad as this story is, we actually have no idea if either of these two lost girls will be motivated by their experience to achieve something we can't even begin to imagine, and effect our society and life in positive ways.

Mind you, I'm not saying abortion should be illegal...only that it's a mistake to take a sad story such as this one, and use it as evidence of anything relating to the necessity of keeping abortion legal...no more than using a story of a world-famous scientist who's abusive mother chose to have him born into poverty should be used as evidence that abortion should be illegal.

SomeoneElse

To think a mother can trade her child, and a child she raised for 14 years no less. There are a few options I can think of:

1. She felt the child would be better off, with food and clothing and a roof over her head with her "new parents".

2. She's not human.

3. She was too stoned at the time to know what she was doing.

I agree....

to a point

having spent the day sat in a waiting room of an abortion clinic a couple of days ago I saw that such a wide variety of people seek terminations for such a wide variety of reasons....

yes the "unborn" might have made something of themselves but what did the mother go through to get them there, the child might be a lawyer but what if the mother turned to crime like prostitution to get there. I would prefer the young woman to go ahead and get her life sorted first and then have a child maybe you would say accidents happen, well the man can walk away why not the woman

my heart bled for some of the sights i saw..

teens with parents crying together for many reasons i guess

loving couples

scruffs for want of a better word who looked like they dont know how to wash

don't know what my point is exactly just that i think this would happen sooooo much more if abortion was not available

Please. You understand my point perfectly. Just because there are success stories does not make every story a success. My only point is that there are ramifications for having children you do not want or cannot care for. Both can be said for this mother because a loving mother would surely protect her child from this situation at all costs. So while people can feel free to flourish on about life and it's endless possibilities, realize also that the world is a shithole and sometimes its better to put an end to an pregnancy than to carry it to term for something like this to be the result.

We should kill the kids now so neither the mother nor the kid need to be burdened anymore. If we did that, a) the mother wouldn't have to fork over the money to raise them anymore and b) the kids wouldn't have to live in a fucked up situation like they do now.

See and I was thinking it might be more towards Lifetime with Justine Bateman as the mom and Meredith Baxter Birney as the social worker/alcoholic trying to help her out.
