I doubt Netflix appeals to families that much. Most familys will BUY dvd's as Kids watch that crap over and over and over. Also the kids hae Zero control over what they will watch...where as when you go to the video store they can see the pretty covers and pick out whatever crap they want.

Many families with mare than 2 kids don't watch that many movies as a family, because many are too busy. Of course I am only basing it on my brothers family (which is very typical and they have 4 kids...my bro can't recall the last movie he saw)I think Netflix is going after Couples, and Singles. It's not exactly Kid friendly. You also have to be internet saavy too.

i dunno. kids are pretty internet savvy. nod

plus they have their own little portable DVD players that fit in a backpack, and they have those damn DVD players that ya install in SUVs to keep the rugrats quiet. i wouldn't underestimate the brat demographic.

Yeah, but do you think Parents are gonna let the kids update the cue? Unless it's an account for the kids...I didn't see any parental control on Netflix either. How would you know if lil Johnny was renting Showgirls? Kids are very into DVD's...very true. And the portability of DVD players is amazing. I do think the trend for movies for kids is probably buying...especially for the little kids who don't care what they watch, really.

Hmm...I'd be interested to know the KID factor with some of this stuff. Do they have Barbie Princess...and the really low kid crap...that kids love so much?

i wasn't saying every one is the same way, but i'm sure they have members who are voracious movie watchers. shit, i've had the same movies for the last 2 months. confused

Yes, I'm sure movie holics are LOVING netflix. Quick Question..how long did it take you to get to where DVD's were lying around for more than 2 weeks, when at first I am sure you watched them religiously or at least within a few days. "The dropoff" I am sure is built into their financial model. I say for us...about 2-3 months before we hit drop-off.

it took me and my girlfriend starting school again. lol

seriously, i'm not sure, i would say it wasn't more than a couple of months. it was an alternative to cable television, which, is way too expensive for what you get and after we got over our infatuation with netflix and watched a couple of shows that peaked our interest it died pretty hard. thing is, when i do finally return they're damn vids, which for some reason seems to be in the middle of the week for me, i don't get any until the week after. you know they (conviently) don't operate on weekends.

man, when i was a kid, if there was an R rated movie i wanted to see on HBO, it was just a matter of finding a time it would be playing when i knew everyone would be asleep or away from the house. kids are sneaky little bastards. and anyway, half the time, parents don't give a damn - if it gets little damian and veruca out of your hair for a while, let 'em go play on the netflix. you know? i'm not saying this is a predominant slice of netflix's patronage, but i bet it's higher than you might think.

It's probably people like me slowing things down. boxed I have been sitting on the same DVD's for about two months. I have yet to watch Donnie Darko, which I picked up at least two months ago on Anx's suggestion.

I've been with Netflix for about 5 or 6 years now. In fact, I started with them when charged strictly on a per disc basis. It seems like once a year or so, they go through a slow phase. I am on the 3 at a time plan, and I usually manage to watch 5 a week or so. But for the past month or so, they're taking their time getting them out to me. What used to always be "receive one, ship the next the same day" is now "receive one day, ship the next." According to their plan policy, it's still within their guidelines. It's a pain in the ass when I'm really looking forward to a disc, so hopefully they get back on their game pretty quickly.

They're still the main contender in the Web-based rental services, but that is changing some. They used to corner about 90% of the market, but as of a few months ago, they were down to about 75%. Still the leader, but there's a definite dent in their market due to Cockbuster and Wal-Mart. Unless something really drastic happens that makes their service awful, I'm going to stick with them.

Every once in a while, Netflix sends me an email asking me which day I received a certain movie. (They claim they want to know in order to improve service, blah blah blah) I was suspicious of their motives--guess I'm paranoid, heh--and feared that they'd slow down service if I told them I was getting next day shipment, so I usually tell them a day later than I actually receive it. redface

Ok I have one kid and 2 extra kids every other weekend, seriously they have all that lame stuff kids want, and I can rent it for a week or two, and not have to pay $30 for a DVD that they are going to grow tired of in that span, SURE I do buy all the Disney films, but there are many like mean Girls, and whatever Lindsay Lohan, or Thats so Raven taht I dont feel the need to buy, but the girls NEED to watch.

Also my service is super slow or super fast, either I get them in 2 days, or Ill get them in 4. Whch is really a pain in the ass. Sometimes tehy will ship all 3 out on teh same day supposedly, and Ill get then 3 different days
