ANXIETY ATTACKS, ANYBODY GET 'EM!

I've been having very mild anxiety attacks (not that Anxiety) for a very long time. I finally went to the doctor and she said that it may be Depression. I coulnd't really tie it in because I don't think I'm depressed. I finally decided to look at the symptoms and yeah, I think I may be in more than just a funk. It's all gravy when I'm with my friends but when I'm alone I get a little sad. I think that I didn't realise it because since I'm an only child I'm used to hanging out by myself. I'm good company. I also realized that in the last 10 years I've lost my mom, two boyfriends(had to let them go), and my dad moved to Mexico. "I think I'm alone now" I've decided to get counseling.

This isn't a woe-is-me-thread. I was wondering if anyone else has suffered through anxiety attacks.

I do...every once in a while. Panic attacks my mom would call em. I get them usually when I have an event coming up (hence why I am not that talkative at the P-Gathering...even though it's mine). Though sometimes I can just be going somewhere...like on a bus and get them. They suck.

They can be tied to depression...though I am not depressed. I usually score a little Xanax from various friends and take them on occasion (usually a half) and magically, they disappear. Your doc can proscibe you something similar. I know folks who take that kind of stuff all the time...but they do so for depression...not for anxiety attacks.

Now the other kind of Anxiety attack...wink

Anxiety

hey, if i ever attack, just offer me some coffee and cake and i'll settle down.

as for the other kind of anxiety attack, it could be a lot of things, from the weather to what you're eating/drinking, to the amount of sleep you're getting to the stuff that's going on in your life. maintenance drugs are only the tip of the iceberg, i'm afraid. you gotta make sure you're taking good care of yourself or you can wig out. i know that's not news, but it's what works for me. nod

Thanks Super. I'm hoping counseling will help. It's still kind of funny to me because I'm not a doom and gloom person. I guess maybe it just might be a little deeper. Everyone who knows me wouldn't believe that I had any form of depression.

From the looks of the other ANXIETY thread. It seems like HE IS about to attack.

Thanks to everyone who responded, you're all my buds!!!! Thanks for the breathing exercises, you know who you are.

Anxiety, I only wig out on the weekends, along with a pair of 6 inch stilletoes(?) (What's that on your head, A WIG) If you get that reference I will totally be impressed.

Petra, you're a sweety. You have a friend here always.

Super, what can I say, you're a sweety, oh yeah I still owe you porn.

Like I said..they can be totally unrelated to depression. A counselor can help you pinpoint when you get them and what brings em on. Anxy is right Xanax and Paxil and the like should be only when a doctor is perscibing them. They don't get rid of what's going on...though they can help you deal with them. You have to seek out the source of the attacks too if you can. That's key.

You mention breathing excercises. That is excellent advice. I have to do that too sometimes...for the mini panic attacks.

Fortunately, I don't get anxiety attacks, but I know a few people that do. I've heard it can be awful and some people even say they feel as if they're going to freak out or pass out. I have a cousin who suffers with this and she's on some sort of medication which seems to help her quite a bit. I've heard breathing exercises are very good too. You have to find some way to calm yourself down and talk yourself out of the feeling, if possible. Perhaps you should speak to your Dr. and they might give you a mild medication. Also, stop being a doom and gloom person. Think positively. It sounds corny, but it might work. Good luck and don't be shy about speaking to your Dr.

He's not gloom and doom...and that's part of his dilema.
