However, late on in ones life without previous employment, it gets tough. Employers always want to see previous work experience. If you don't have it, then fuck getting a decent job for a college/university student. A table wiper at McDonalds, don't cut it for youth trying to pay off the expensive tuitions. On top of that, they want jobs which they will gain experience in the field they hope to achieve with their degree/diploma.

I've been in that position a few times. It's insane to think that you can spend you entire youth in college with false aspirations of getting a decent job, and then when it comes down to it, the employer asks for '2-3' years experience. In my field, they began to introduce 'industrial placements' as part of the education - maybe this was already popular in the states. Even so, I've had folks claim my years placement wasn't valid because it went towards a qualification, and thus not proper vocational experience ..... BULLSEYE!

My uncle did it, and he is now condierably wealthy, with no high school diploma even....

My uncle did it, and he is now condierably wealthy, with no high school diploma even.... Also, a problem in the UK is that the universities are getting increasingly less funding from the government, and one of the ways that they have to subsidise this is by increasing the number of students each year. I remember that when I started, there was a modest 30 in each lecture, which increased to 100 by the time I left. So now, you have kids who are led to believe that an education will provide an advantage in the job market, when actually they will be placed into a bracket ('those having been college educated') that is far bigger and more competitive than kids in other brackets, such as 'those that decide to leave school and immediately start at the bottom rung of the corporate ladder. I have friends who left school at 16, got pregnant, now have 5 kids but also run the local supermarket. It's not a job that I'd want but they rake in the cash. One last thing, over the last decade, in the UK at least, there's been an increase in tacky degree courses, such as 'The music of Slade', or 'Acoustics of the Oboe'. There's always going to be a tendency for kids to start a university/college course to delay having to get a job, but I think that the success behind 'non-vocational' qualifications highlights the most important thing about education: when push comes to shove, it's not as important as drive and determination. ..... BULLSEYE!

How you doing hun? GREAT!!! I live in Texas and me thinks finding work in Texas is harder than ever, no matter what your age is. Spanish speaking and bilingual hispanics are taking over that state of Texas and California when it comes to jobs. They make it hard for English speaking whites and blacks! Even Mexican illegal immagrants get low paying jobs quicker than American born citizens where I'm from. Poor ppl in some parts are better off living off teh government (sec 8, housing, food stamps) and selling drugs than trying to compete with these hispanics. And Mexicans NEVER stop having babies!!! Blks and whites are being ran out of TEXAS!!!! I plan on leaving myself within the next 2 yrs.
