Sin City

Anyone see this movie yet?
I saw it last night.
Wow.
I'm still processing what I thought of it. Having never read the comic it was based on and only seeing a short preview I barely remembered I didn't really know what to expect.
My goodness, what a dark, dark film.
The aesthetics were simply gorgeous. And that alone was worth it.
And I must say I loved the cast.
But wow. So violent. I have a hard time watching violence these days, even as stylized as this was.

Then yay!! woot!

It really is gorgeous in a dark way. And the cast truly is amazing. I particularly loved Clive Owen, Benicio Del Toro and the characters played by Elijah Wood, Rosario Dawson and the supermodel whose name I can never remember... Devon Aoki? Something like that. She plays a basically mute bad girl assasin/whore.

For anyone that likes the movie, do yourself a favor. Go to the book store and buy the graphic novels and read them. Frank Miller is a GOD.

My first roommate was a huge fan of comics and graphic novels, and I picked it up from him for a while but I never came across Frank Miller before. I keep meaning to get back into it as there are so many great things in that genre. I just may be checking it out.

I think a lot of people will find Sin City to be a good movie. Cinema fan boys will no doubt praise it as the best movie of the year. It's ambitious, that's for sure, but it's bombast was a distraction for me. I thought going into it that there'd be minimal story to string together - in what I gathered from the promotional clips - the film's considerable visual appeal. And I would have been fine with that. Instead I thought that Rodriquez and Miller's directorial choices sort of distracted from the story. Make no mistake about it, there's much to admire in its aesthetic appeal. In the end, I admire the film more than I enjoyed it.

What an incredible film. Dark humor, dark serious themes. I used to hate Mickey Rourke. He was awesome. I think Bruce Willis was a little better than usual. Benicio was awesome. Nick Stahl was disgusting, he was great. Elijah Wood was scary as f*&k.

Did you notice anything in the toilet scene?

Thank you for saying that, now I don't feel like a molestor. It's those damn eyes. boff

He wasn't transluscent. He had long nails and they concentrated on his mirror-type glasses.

Me too.

My stomach turns at torture scenes and other types of violent scenes.
I hate seeing people suffer.

I've yet to see the Passion of the Christ--and probably never will, becuase to me it would be watching a death trip.

Uhhgggghhhhh...that was GROOOOSSSSS

This is the most PERFECT movie that ever was and ever will be made. I have new hero's in life. How many times did Bruce Willis get shot...and he MAINTAINED! This movie for me personafied the thread that was up earlier(like 2 mo's ago) about RETROsexuals....DEAL WITH IT! Your hooker friend gets murdered and U're trying to find out who did it and on the way U get smacked in the head with baseball bats 30 or 40 times and shot thru it once as well. DEAL WITH IT(and put some band-aids on. Tryng to save a little girl from a child molester and U get shot 20 times...DEAL WITH IT!

I've watched 3 seasons of 24 and I though Jack Bauer as HARDCORE...he died and cameback for Chris-sake. Micky Rourks character in this movie picks Jack Bauer off of his ass like a dingleberry.

I'm going to see this movie again...just to see the guys head get drug on the asphalt while Mikey was driving like 90 or summin down the street.

My favorite line in the movie...

while spitting blood..."Is that all U got?"

or maybe..."Instead of being short and silent, this is gonna be looong and LOUD"

The comic books have been sitting in my must read pile for almost ten years. boxed

I finally pulled them out a few weeks ago when the commercials starting airing on television. I've read most of them and I'm almost finished with the Bruce Willis story and then I'll see the movie. It looks like the film is reproduced from the comics panel for panel. That's impressive. That way fanboys won't have anything to complain about like they usually do.

I'm enjoying them a lot. The lettercolumns are particularly interesting also. They are mostly Frank on his soapbox speaking about the evils of the comic code and any other form of comic censorship or rating systems.

This movie ROCKED!!! It works as a film AND as an accurate adaptation (of course, it helps that Miller's series is pretty much laid out like movie storyboards).

Anyone guess what scene Tarantino directed? I got it wrong (my friend who knows QT set me straight).

I've read the original series just recently and in the lettercolumns published in the original comics, Frank goes on about how comics are not movies and how he stopped drawing his books as if they could be. Ironic.

Yeah, pretty ironic. Of course, he probably figured no one would have the balls to make a film that bloody in today's climate.
