when is it fate, and when is it just something you should pass up ? ok, those that know me know my babies love dogs we have a cat... we lost our other cat Olivia shortly after moving here i still really miss her. anyway, the kids have been buggin me lately to get another animal. we all had kind of agreed that it would be a kitty since Cody, my other cat seems lonely now.
yesterday, the kids got in the car and out of the blue started talking about wanting a dog. i said, i thought we had decided to get a kitty ??? what are you guys talking about now ??? i tried my best to explain to them that when i get a puppy, my family goes crazy. my brother/mother/sister-in-law/you name it all go freakin nuts !!! i guess its because i am a single mom, and they say my hands are way to full to support the needs of a puppy however, that still doesnt answer my kids request for a dog. my son brought up a great point..... every single one of the people that say DONT get a dog, all have one. and yes, i deal with depression, but, im doing quite well with the meds im on now ive been pretty happy now for a few weeks (aside from the shit that happened at the school).... anyway, let me get to the point... i brought the kids home, then went to the grocery store, made dinner, and wandered into my room... i thought, well, i'll just 'see' whats on the net as far as puppies go the 2nd or 3rd ad was about a puppy free to good home, so, i checked that ad. her name is Molly. shes a full blooded black lab and is 18 months old. shes house trained, and neutered. she is also kennel trained. since the owner, a really nice sounding younger single guy is the only one that lives with her and is opening a new business that requires travel 3-4 days a week wont be able to be there for her as much, he feels he needs to find her a good home. i asked when i called if anyone had phoned about Molly yet, and he said, wow, i just put that ad up less than 15 minutes ago and seemed surprised to get a response so fast. we talked for quite a while, about the dog, my kids, his new job, blah, blah, blah.... he seems like a nice guy that really cares about where she ends up. anyway, the ad said that she comes with her kennel toys... so i asked if shes kennel trained, he said yes she is. i said, what size kennel should i get for her ? he said, ya know, i JUST bought her a brand new larger kennel.. and i think she should take it with her also, inside the kennel is one of those large dog beds, you know the ones you unzip and throw in the washing machine ? so theres that taken care of. what a nice thing that hes willing to send that along with her. so, after we talked last night, i felt pretty good about it, and he promised that he wouldnt let anyone else get her before we got to meet him and Molly. but, i started thinking.... what will i do with her when we go out of town this summer ? we will be gone for 10 days and that was about the only thing i could think of to worry about. he called this morning, and is sending a few photos to me this afternoon on the net.... and HE said, check this out.... there is one thing that i would like to ask of you, it would make me feel better. i said, sure, whats that ? he says... if you ever go on vacation, and you need someplace to have her stay, can she stay with me ?? so, heres the deal... yes, its a lot of work, but it seems ideal to me, when do you say its fate and you should go with it, and when do you say, maybe this is a crazy decision ????? labs are known to be a little hyper in the beginning, but are also very intelligent animals, GREAT with kids, protective (yet not aggressive), they shed some (as all dogs do) - but not tons... and shes already potty trained oh, and while researching, and looking up pictures .... i found a few i thought were pretty cute. i was waiting for you here see, the deal is, it was a JOKE in the beginning jen, if you recall, bluesbaby said, 'lord, tell me you didnt do something thats gonna be to hard on you' .... my answer back, 'so, 2 st. bernard puppies wasnt a good idea' it was a joke jen, a joke..... i have NEVER had a st bernard dog in my life, nor would i ever.. they are way to big, way to much hair, and not my style. but, im touched that you remembered the conversation so well the two dogs i did get where small shitzu's... and they were raised in a puppy mill, eventually, as i tried my best to help them, they were too ill, and i gave them up to an organization that would be able to better care for them AFTER i turned the man in *hoping to save more puppies from being in that situation*.
