I Wanna Go On A Blind Date... If anyone EVER hears me uttering these words, kill me immediately!! ... Drown me in Pepsi before you allow me to subject myself to a blind date..!! Is the success rate of blind dates that successful that it makes people say "yes" to one?? So who here actually goes on blind dates??...Are they usually successful? I find it hard to get excited by telling myself "I'm gonna spend the entire evening with someone I've never met, never seen, never talked to, and didn't even know they existed until three days ago!! Whoohoo!!"...

So, did you recently have a blind date yourself and regret it?

Don't look at it like that. It is an adventure when you do something like that. I think I have been on two with my sister. She invited this knucklehead to meet me and she told me nothing. Dude was a complete idiot but I had fun. I would do it again but there would definitely be some stipulations to this arrangement! Wanted: Virtual Sugar Daddy to help me buy stuff on Farmville and move up the ranks. Use of Viagra not authorized. Get your two minutes and go!

Org meet ups are blind dates if I ever saw one! Going anywhere to meet someone you've never met? Same thing. All homosapiens have one or two things in common. You just never know. Even people that you hang around everyday are a mystery. You never truly get to know anyone. It is a crap shoot and I say why not! Take a chance...

Since I moved to Seattle by myself about two and a half years ago, and because I'm not in surroundings conduscive to meeting men (i.e., I'm no longer in college or working in a predominantly male workplace), I started online dating. So, I guess you could call that blind dating.
I also used to think I'd never do such a thing--I thought it indicated desperation and loser-hood. Hell, maybe it DOES. But much like ShySlantedEye1 said, I've come to view it more in terms of adventure and meeting someone to at least maybe have an interesting conversation with. I always make it clear that there's ZERO pressure on my end to make a "love connection", and that regardless, I'm there to enjoy the moment. Being practical--I try to make sure we've chatted a bit on the phone beforehand so I know we have a few things to talk about, and to get an idea of our "flow", before meeting in person. For the first meeting, I tend to schedule coffee or something quick so that if nothing's happening chemistry-wise, not even as friends, the option to leave comfortably is there. It's really not any different than meeting Orgers in person, although I guess that is usually totally platonic. I go through phases of dating and then taking time off when I get cynical about it. All in all, I don't regret it. I've done some very interesting things, gone places I probably wouldn't have gone, and learned my way around the city, to name just a few benefits. I've learned a lot about myself and what I'm looking for--and NOT looking for. One thing I want to add (not directed personally to you, Byron): it can be really hurtful and embarrassing to be laughed at about online dating, and/or to be told "OMG, I'd NEVER do that" or "Wow, you're soooo brave!" (two of the things I've heard about this). Although perhaps those comments aren't intended to be judgmental or holier-than-thou, it can kind of come off that way. I know that some people just feel like it's too much pressure, or that they're too shy, and I completely understand that rationale. But I guess the ole "I'll meet someone at the coffeeshop/bookshop/grocerystore/through a mutual friend" thing just never materialized for me and I decided to do something about it. I guess I don't consider org meetups and online dating as "blind dates", if for no other reason that you've interacted with other orgers or people online before the first date or meet-up. Even if we've never talked directly with other orgers, we're aware of their personalities, sense of humor, intelligence, etc. thru their posts and such. Blind dates, to me, are dates with complete and total strangers, people who you've not interacted with in any way, shape or form...you aren't even slightly aware of their existence on the planet...that is, until your mom or aunt arranges a two-hour dinner between you and this "mystery human"..lol

You know, your right! I have thought this through a multitude of angles and it is just a really bad plan!
In every scenario it ends up an episode from twin peaks! Complete with midgets and circus acts...
