Marriage and domestic relationships are defined as between a man and woman in alot of states--thus, samesex couples have been finding loopholes in which the abusing partner will be tried for battery, but not domestic violence (A stiffer penalty) becuase the law states that legitimate relationships between domestic partners are between a man and woman--not between same sex couples.
