Movies that deal with homosexuality

I was hunting for a movie to rent (inbetween netflix) and I noticed there were a lot of movies that had homosexual content, yet I had never heard of them and they looked to be sexual in nature (Has a topless guy on the front). It makes me think I haven't seen a "Gay movie" in a Loooong time. I can't even recall the last one...wait...Before Night Falls. But it took me forever to watch it and it really wasn't that centered around homosexuality...sort of.

The thing is I used to await for these movies to come out int he theatre and whatnot...now I could really care less. Maybe it's that they have gone so far mainstream or sexual, that I no longer have an interest. But it also seems like good ones are few and far inbetween. Maybe I have moved far past the WIll and Grace path and Queer as FOlk path...but where are the movies that said something.

Parting Glances
Torch SOng Trilogy
Longtime Companion
Boys don't cry

Perhaps now that the groundwork has been laid out, we don't see anymore ofthese types of movies...or they are getting buried with all of the "Fluffer" movies and "Boys life" ones. Does anyone feel me? Even better does anyone have recommendations of GOOD gay movies?

you are also much younger...when these movies DID come out int he 80's and 90's, there was talk about them. You mostly have heard of the mainstream stuff...In & Out, Jeffery, The Bird cage.

Love, Valor, and Compassion- A group of middle age gay friends with AIDS come to a summer house in every year to spend the last of their days together. That was pretty good.

But I'm a Cheerleader- Satire. This girl who her friends and family think have "homosexual tendecies" is sent to a camp that's supposed to make her straight...which doesn't work....That was pretty good...

Twilight of the Gold( i think...can't remember...) Two parents find out their child is gay and debate on whether or not to carry out the pregnancy.

Beautiful Thing- Another coming of age young gay boy story. In English. Not American english, England english.

Bound- With Gina Gershon and Jennifer Tilly. The wife of a mob boss falls in love with a female theif planning to steal from her husband. THAT was a good ass movie.

Damn. There's a whole bunch more i've seen but i really can't remember them right now, but you've probably seen a couple if not all of those.

There needs to be a GAY 101 book. For up-coming gays. It'd be a book that would give you backgroun on History of Gays, Gays in entertainment, a section on who's gay and who might be, Gay Fashion..and gay politics (cuz some people just need to know our past and struggle). Basically a book that will help your gay card by leaps and bounds.

It'd sell a lot too. hmmm Maybe I should write this book.

i dug that movie, too. i didn't think it was possible for me to like sara rue, but i really really really liked her and everything about that flick. they managed not to get too 'afterschool special' or condescending with a gay coming-of-age flick. and they got the whole teenage goth/freak vibe down really well, too.

I also liked the way they did (and didn't) deal with issues of female body image.

'Kiss of the Spider Woman'. Just absolutely fantastic, and Willian Hurt is perfect in his role. I've seen about five times and it's every time like new.

Good choices.

Hedgewig (recent classic)
Pricilla
and To Wong foo are also good (though to wong was the start of the mainstream crap that was beginning)

God I remember Paris is Burning (Joan Jett Blakk is in it...when he was Fab...now he's just a messy speed fiend sigh Shame too as he was one of my Gay Idols/Icons)...But Paris is more of a Doc than anything.

Anyone see Go Fish? Interesting but too indie for me (I also knew some of the girls who did it).

There was another one...making love with Kate Jackson...I think that was my first ever. I rented it purposfully for the content.

Paul Verhoeven made this movie when he was in the running to direct Return of the Jedi, after Lucas saw Spetters he decided to choose another director.

Loved these:

Parting Glances
Torch SOng Trilogy
Longtime Companion
Boys don't cry

I'd add DESERT HEARTS - early Lesbian film, very good. I agree with Bound, I want Gina to top me. I really enjoyed BEAUTIFUL THING, I'm an anglophile. And all I have to say about BUT I'M A CHEERLEADER is EDDIE CIBRIAN. He is my number 1. He can do whatever he wants to me. The scene where he's in shorts doing yard work and flirting with RU-PAUL(out of drag) from afar. WHAT!!!!! When I saw that part I thought I was going to lose my damn mind.

Parting Glances was the first really good gay themed movie I saw. I was young when I saw it. It really gave me hope.

I'm still looking for that perfect gay movie. I want them to make THE DREYFUSS AFFAIR already damn-it. I hope they don't fuck BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN up.

You guys are taking me way back. MAKING LOVE yes!!! Gregory Harrison's first gay movie, the other IT'S MY PARTY. I liked that one too.

Paris Is Burning - My friends and I still quote lines from it. Ru-Paul got all his material from that. He really wasn't copying though, he was around that scene a little after that time in New York. The famous "Sashay Chante".

Go Fish was really good. What's the name of that beautiful lesbian. I can't think of it. She's returning to the L Word as an actress. I know she writes for them.

Loved Hedwig!!!!!

I liked TO WONG FOO for John Leguizamo. Fierce. I really liked PRISCILLA.

Is NOAH'S ARK out yet!!!!! I have to get that. The web site had 20 minute clips last year sometime but they're not there anymore. I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT.
