creepy stuff did happen in the house...but its been blown out of proportion saying that at night you can see the windows light up in diff colors sillys tuff like that. The guy who lives there now says that nothing has happened there in the time he has been there and hes lived there for many years now. The town of amityville thinks its just another house like any other. Yet! An old friend of my mothers...(shes an elderly woman now) lived in Amityville all her life and she use to be a school bus driver. She took the young man who killed the family on the bus to school when he was younger. She told us that he was never okay up here *taps head-* he was very strange and that it didnt surprise her when she found out what he did a few years later. What happened in the late seventies with the second family that moved in, did occur. They were very spooked and never looked back again. As of now tho the house is just there and nothing has really happened. People just like tom ake things up. But at night time I do admit its pretty cool drving by cause around that area it gets foggy a lot since its by the beach...But nothing major. Sorry didnt post earlier.

Thanks for your thoughts. I see what you mean about how things can get blown out of proportion. Adding in all the films centering about it, and there is far more fiction than fact around the case. The new film will no doubt add to all the crap piled on top of the legend. George Lutz himself has said that the things that happened to him were frightening enough, and the fact that Hollywood and what-not continues to exaggerate is pretty sad. It makes his tale seem all the more bogus, when in fact most of the assertions he made haven't been covered in the films and books. Instead, these filmmakers keeps adding their own details, to make it seem more frightening. In reality, they've done the opposite. The story Lutz tells about the "robed" figure pointing at him (which doesn't appear in any of the film versions) was the creepiest thing I've read about the case.

Anyhoo, thanks for your thoughts. I've gone from thinking this whole thing was a hoax, to believing their may just be something behind it after all.

dont believe the bullsh*t jedimaster, the lutz went back the day after they ran (and supposedly never looked back) and had a garage sale..if a house freaks ya out that much would you go back to sell lemonade?

and who up in this thread say this movie was going to be a lot more truthful to what actually happened? giggle

Go see it! I think it's even better than the original nod

That's not saying much. The original was pretty dull, however, I prefer it to this bland, typical Hollywood shlock. This new version was incredibly derivitive and uninteresting (not to mention, not scary in the slightest). It might be great if you've never watched a horror film at all, but otherwise its just old hat.

i watched the original two nights ago and i gotta say it still freaked me out..sure it was BORING..but i think thats what builds the tension....

but the ending does suck.

Well,I liked it hmph!

Most horror movies these days are derivative and un-original anyway.I think they simply ran out of ideas. After all the 'Halloween' and 'Friday The 13th' films, there's nowhere else to turn lol

I agree that most horror movies today are derivitive, but that doesn't excuse this one from stealing scenes wholesale. If you want to do an homage, a-la Rob Zombie's House Of 1000 Corpses, then I expect it to not only be derivitive, but to also add something new to the mix. This flick had NOTHING new to say. It just cut-and-pasted scenes from other, far superior films.

No, it was horrible, predictable, boring...
Just another movie to hype that little kid, nothing more...

I haven't seen it, but that does seem to be the general consensus.
After this one and "Godsend", some folks are wondering what the hell DeNiro is thinking these days.

Due to the success of The Ring, Hollywood has decided to make little kids the focus of scares in horror films: The little Japanese kid in The Grudge (who meows like a cat! Oooooo! Scary!), The little girl in Hide And Seek, The little girl in Amityville, etc. Its been done before, and its been done better. Time to find a new gimmick, Hollywood!

From seeing the previews,I didn't think "Hide And Seek" looked very promising. But I'll probably rent the DVD anyway wink

It definitely wasn't one I was going to go beyond renting. Hell, I might just wait for cable.
