you're sooooo gay! lol (you crack me up, props to that! thumbs up!)

COME ON ABIERMAN!!! Although I find the swimming pool scene painful, no ones dick could survive all that pounding, many straight men love it.

I'd switch for Gina Gershon. I would love her to "top" me.

Underworld, Pirates of the Carribean, Identity all movies that surprise me of how good they were.

Identity??? I thought it wa well acted...and I was expecting more...better. But it's also a movie that has so many "twists" (coming out in the age of "twist" movies) that I really didn't care for it.

Don't even get me started on Identity, that had to be one of the WORST twist endings next to The Village., LOL

Well, I can think of one that surprised me...in a bad way. I had so many friends recommend Moulin Rouge to me, that I thought it had to be great. That movie was shittier than an outhouse at Woodstock! Seriously, people really thought Nicole Kidman could sing? My lawd! She's worse than Cindy Crawford was in that ad with Little Richard back in the day! Bloody awful!

i loved it. it's one of those movies though. very dividing.

When Charlie Kaufman was insulting his twin brother's script in 'Adaptation', I was totally reminded of 'Identity'. lol

50 First Dates- I was surprised at how much it made me laugh. Rob Schneider killed me with his character. Plus the Hawaiian setting gives it that
extra special something.

Cellular- I didn't think it was gonna be that good, but this thing had me hooked 5 minutes in. It takes a lot for movie to make me yell at the bad guys. It was cool.

Well, I hated it too, although I was really looking forward to it, but I just didn't like it. I tried to fall asleep, but I couldn't, as this horrible music was bothering me.

Dancer In The Dark.

I'd heard conflicting opinions on this so didn't see it straight away. When I
did see it I have to say that at first I wasn't convinced by the handheld
homemade look and the acting seemed 'odd' at the start. But once it got going
it was really engaging. Again, I wasn't sure about the pivitol shooting sequence
(it all seemed far fetched in it's execution)... But the whole end section was
probably one of the most powerful emotional things I've seen on screen. Very,
very harrowing to watch.

Moulin Rouge.
It just didn't seem like my kind of thing. I thought Romeo+Juliet was overrated
and I wasn't really into musicals. So I thought I wouldn't particularly care
for this one. But I was wrong, it really impressed me! It's just so 'out there'
yet it managed to keep it's emotional depth. It occupies it's own created world
in the same way that Kill Bill, Twin Peaks or Hairspray does. It was just so
unlike anything else out there. the way it constantly swung from comedy to
tragedy in seconds, the use of familiar songs rather than an original 'musical'
score, the use of imagery, color, CGI and models. It was just so unique, and
it actually benfits and improves with subsequent viewings.

See, that's what I can't get past is the awful arrangements of the music (well, along with Nicole's screaching and the awful over-acting).

I thought that I was not going to enjoy this because I love the original. Gere's version was really entertaining.

Totally agree

Hmm. I just can't see the appeal. I see your point that it occupies its own world, but its more of a world like Batman & Robin, to me, than any of the films you mentioned. Its garish and over the top, but I never saw any merit to it in this film. I've pretty much decided that I hate Baz Lurhman's work though. I haven't liked any of his films to date. Strictly Ballroom was atrocious, and Romeo & Juliet was a friggin' joke.

Oh, and did I mention how much I hated Kidman's "singing"? Shit, she's as good at singing as Madonna is at acting.

Gere playing an older man is not realy a stretch for him is it? Man that film sucked. I dig charming silly films like this usually, but Rochard is just so annoying. He ruined "chicago"

As for "showgirls". Yeah that movie is great. I don't get crtics narrow mindedness when it comes to movies. Above all the movie entertains. So wheres the problem?

I think expectation has a lot to do with it. I saw Moulin Rouge thinking that
I wouldn't like it, and you went in with high expectations due to friends
recomendations. Of course there is the Baz Lurhman factor, and if you don't
like his work then you don't like it. Though I have to say I'm not keen on
Strictly Ballroom or Romeo + Juliet either. His visual 'style' just seemed
unecessary on those films, but with Moulin Rouge it seemed to have more
relevance. For me it just works in the context of that film. It wasn't all
just pointless window dressing, there was a solid reason for it all.
I know what you mean about Batman & Robin, but in the case of that film I
just thought the visual style was innapropriate and came across as cheap and
camp (I hated the Joel Schumacher Batman movies). Whereas with Moulin Rouge
it came across as expensive camp.

* Schindler's List.
..... After all this time, I just rented it. I thought it would be marvelous but it was boring and not evocative. Life is Beautiful and The Pianist, both Holocaust movies, are five times better. Why did every one think this was soo good. Maybe due to the subject matter? Speilberg should not have directed this.

* Jersey Girl.
.....I had already seen Gigli and it was far worse than could be imagined. So, I expected JG to suck. Surprisingly, I thought the father, daughter love affair was so precious... it made me cry by the end, I'm sad to say. It wasn't great, but it was alright and I'd recommend it. Ben Affleck cannot act, but he was helped by the little girl who is so excellent and the guy who played his father.

* She Hate Me.
----- I only expected this to be OK, but it was a hot mess. It sucked in soo many ways. Disgraceful.

* Sling Blade/Forrest Gump
----- Everybody loved these two movies. I thought both main characters were annoying non-heros who didn't deserve screen time. These movies sucked!

* Closer
----- I hated this movie for the first hour. It thought it was a cheap, exploitative film that Clive and Julia were duped into. Then, the themes and parallels started to reveal and I realized how complex the artist's statment was about sex, love, intimacy, trust, and openness. Now, I love it.

and speaking of Julia.... I thought Mona Lisa Smile was going to be a female Dead Poets Society ... but it wasn't. She was horrible as a professor and turned in a diffident, non-powerful performance.
